An exciting opportunity has become available for a dedicated, compassionate, and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in the London Borough of Wandsworth. This rewarding role involves providing dedicated 1:1 support for a student with an EHCP, helping them to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential both academically and socially. \n The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the student's educational journey by working closely with teachers, the SENCO, pastoral staff, and external professionals to deliver consistent, personalised support throughout the school day. \n This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or someone with a genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs in a secondary school setting. \n \n About the Role \n As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to a student with an EHCP, ensuring they are fully included in school life and able to access the curriculum in a way that meets their individual needs. \n You will work alongside teaching staff to implement strategies and interventions outlined within the student's EHCP while promoting independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours. \n The successful candidate will: \n\n • Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.\n, • Support the student in accessing lessons across the curriculum.\n, • Encourage independence while providing appropriate levels of support.\n, • Build a positive, trusting, and supportive relationship with the student.\n, • Promote engagement, participation, and confidence within lessons.\n, • Support emotional wellbeing and help the student develop effective coping and self-regulation strategies.\n, • Encourage positive behaviour and reinforce school expectations.\n, • Assist with organisation, communication, and classroom routines.\n, • Record observations and contribute to monitoring the student's progress.\n\n \n Key Responsibilities \n The role will include: \n\n • Supporting the student during lessons across a range of subjects.\n, • Providing clarification and reinforcement of teacher instructions.\n, • Helping the student remain engaged and focused throughout learning activities.\n, • Supporting social interaction and inclusion during break and lunchtime where appropriate.\n, • Assisting with transitions between lessons and around the school site.\n, • Implementing strategies identified within the student's EHCP.\n, • Supporting differentiated learning and intervention programmes.\n, • Encouraging the development of independence, resilience, and self-confidence.\n, • Maintaining accurate records where required and communicating progress with relevant staff.\n\n \n The Ideal Candidate \n We are looking for someone who: \n\n • Has previous experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs, ideally within a secondary school setting.\n, • Has experience supporting students with EHCPs or additional learning needs.\n, • Demonstrates patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.\n, • Is calm, adaptable, and able to respond positively to changing situations.\n, • Can build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.\n, • Has a proactive and flexible approach to supporting learning.\n, • Works well as part of a wider school team.\n, • Is committed to promoting inclusion and ensuring every student can achieve success.\n\n Experience supporting students with needs such as autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), or moderate learning difficulties would be advantageous but is not essential. \n \n Position: SEN Teaching Assistant – 1:1 EHCP Support \n Location: Wandsworth, London \n Setting: Mainstream Secondary School \n Support Type: 1:1 SEN Support \n Contract: Full Time (Monday to Friday) | Term Time Only \n Start Date: September 2026 \n Working Hours: 08:30am – 16:00pm \n \n Safeguarding \n The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
