Disabled and chronically ill people are regularly abandoned by health and social care systems leading to completely avoidable pain, hardship and death. Well Adapt supports chronically ill people to manage symptoms like pain and fatigue. We work with policymakers, healthcare providers, and communities to build health and social care systems grounded in disability justice – recognising that intersecting marginalisations such race, gender, class, and sexuality all shape how people experience health and care. Responsibilities This role is primarily a support role to the CEO, the following: • Writing grant application and tenders, • Writing and responding to emails, • General administration Essential Qualifications These skills and experiences don’t need to have been developed in a professional context. Feel free to think of skills and experiences from your personal life as well. Skills • Strong persuasive writing skills, • Strong ability to absorb and organise lots of information, • Strong ability to take verbal instruction, • Attention to detail Experience • Experience with writing any kind of fundraising application Personality • Feeling confident challenging people in positions of authority, • A genuine enthusiasm for our mission and the topics we cover Desirable Qualifications: Experience • Lived experience of disability, chronic illness, or neurodiversity is highly desirable., • Experience in the disability sector or other social impact sectors OR experience in grassroots activism outside of work, • Experience writing grant applications, • Experience writing government tenders, • Experience forming partnerships (extra points if it’s with disability focused organisations) Location and Working Hours: As this is primarily a support role to the CEO, your working hours will need to take place during the CEO’s working hours of between 10am – 6pm Monday to Friday. The specific timings within those hours are flexible except for core meetings. They currently take place on Thursday and Friday mornings but this may be negotiable depending on the availability of the rest of the team. Other meetings between you and the CEO will be negotiated depending on mutual availability. The role will primarily take place remotely with occasional in-person meetings, negotiated on a case-by-case basis. Please state in your application your current availability for these working hours.     Job Summary Waking Night Support worker / Carer to join a lovely team around a friendly 19 year old teenager who has epilepsy, non verbal autism, movement disorder and additional health needs. He lives at home with his family and friendly dog. About the position Weekly hours minimum 26 hours We are looking for someone to take on 2 regular waking nights (13hr each night shift so in total 26 hours) ideally Thursday and Friday nights (but please let us know which nights work for you and we can then consider). These are strictly waking nights in the family home. More weekly hours are possible sometimes but not less hours. After successful training the rate increases from £16 to £17 per hours. Per night shift: £221 after training. This is a self-employed position with UTR number - no PAYE. This would suit a student of a relevant health related subject. Candidate would need to be able to commit to 12 months. About the young person who needs support: The young man needs someone to spot seizures or other health emergencies and if needed call the parents who are in the same house. The monitoring is with seizure video monitor and heart rate monitor and regular in person checks. These nights can be quite active - as if he has a seizure he might have to be accompanied via ambulance to A&E. Good command of the English language is essential. All training is during the day first through shadowing. About you: This position will suit someone who ideally has already worked with autistic and disabled adults and has already experience. But it is very different from working in a care home. But we would are be able to train you in personal care, catheterisation, medication administration, peristeen and positive behaviour support and other essential skills - if you are a suitable candidate. His environment will need to be kept clean and tidy (it is not a cleaner position but to ensure that his environment stays tidy, safe and fit for purpose). You will help with his laundry too. We would prefer someone to work on a self-employed basis with a UTR number (not cash in hand). It is exactly 26 hours minimum per week. We hope to find someone who has specific interest in special needs. It is not a summer job but we hope to find someone to commit for a minimum of 12months. That's why we would prefer someone who has studied or will study a related subject eg Psychology, nursing or similar health related. One would need to be strong and fit to support and keep safe someone with a movement disorder. The suitable applicant would be flexible and be able to take on extra shifts from time to time. You would often work together with other team members at the beginning or end of your shift (eg for bath time). Day shifts might available too on occasion if you are interested. This position could offer full time hours from the autumn. You should be responsible, cheerful, honest and very reliable and physically strong and healthy. You will be trained by members of the experienced team in all of his health needs but also the principles of ABA - a behaviour therapy. You will need to attend some of the team meetings too. You should: • Have experience with disability and even better profound autism, • Be strong and fit, • Commit for minimum a year., • Ideally be self-employed., • Invoice at the end of every month, • Able to work legally in the UK, • Based within commuting distance to north London, • Be a non Smoker and non Vaper., • Be comfortable with dogs.
