The Role: Legal Finance Officer We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Finance Officer to provide maternity cover within our Finance Department. This 12–15 month fixed-term contract offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, supporting both finance and legal operations. You’ll play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling client and office accounts, processing payments, and ensuring full compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR) and company policies. This role suits an experienced Legal Cashier, Finance Officer, or Legal Accounts Assistant looking to expand their experience within a modern, values-driven organisation. Key Responsibilities Financial Transactions & Reconciliations • Perform daily bank reconciliations for both client and office accounts., • Accurately identify, allocate, and record office and client receipts., • Process supplier invoices and staff expenses into Sage, ensuring all transactions are authorised and correctly coded., • Complete monthly supplier reconciliations and maintain accurate ledgers., • Review, post, and reconcile counsel fees and disbursements., • Prepare and issue disbursement and fee bills as required., • Conduct weekly and monthly medical reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly. Reporting & Compliance • Produce monthly nominal ledger reports for the Legal Director., • Support the annual SRA audit and collaborate with external auditors., • Ensure compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR) and internal controls., • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive financial and client data., • Provide ad hoc financial reports and data analysis as required. Operational & Administrative Support • Manage the Finance inbox, responding to internal and external queries., • Perform daily banking and related administrative tasks., • Provide financial support to legal teams and file handlers on case-related matters., • Assist the Group Finance Manager with ongoing finance projects and reporting tasks. Skills & Experience Essential: • Proven experience in a finance or accounts department (legal sector preferred)., • Excellent numerical accuracy and strong attention to detail., • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities., • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general Office applications., • Effective communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships., • Professional, discreet, and reliable when handling confidential information. Desirable: • Previous experience as a Legal Cashier or Legal Finance Officer., • Working knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR)., • Experience using Sage accounting software., • Exposure to SRA audits and working with external auditors. Education & Qualifications • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (required)., • AAT qualification or equivalent (desirable).
