Lecturer – Uniformed Services Uxbridge Part time and Permanent (18 Hours across 3 days) Negotiable start date £16,228 -£22,630 Uniformed Services at our College is a highly successful area of provision, providing excellent training opportunities for young people seeking a career in the Uniformed Public Services or progression into HE. Our students are highly motivated and we create a disciplined learning environment that prepares them for a career in the Police, Armed Services, Fire Brigade, Ambulance and Security Services. We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed professional to join us on a part time basis and teach on a range of programmes in Uniformed Services, including NCFE Levels 1 – 5 and Higher National Diploma (HE). The role will involve attending outdoor and residential activities and delivering / supporting some fitness training. You will also need to be able to drive a minibus or be prepared to undertake relevant training. You will need to be qualified to a minimum of Level 3, and have work experience in the Police, other emergency services or the Armed Services. Some teaching/training experience is desirable, but more important is the ability to communicate effectively and be able to engage young people aged 16-19. If you are not a trained teacher, the College will fully fund and support you to obtain this qualification. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST The main purpose of the job is to ensure the retention and achievement of students through the delivery of good practice in teaching and learning. The Lecturer will teach, develop and improve programmes of study in subjects and courses relevant to the post-holder’s knowledge, qualifications and experience. DUTIES SPECIFIC TO THE POST Outdoor activities, drill, residential activities and a high level of discipline are an essential part of the student experience of Uniformed Services, and a willingness to contribute to these is expected of all staff. The Uniformed Services course at Uxbridge College is among one of the best in the country, with a success rate well above National Average and an excellent enrichment programme to help prepare students to progress onto either Higher Education or employment in the Uniformed Services. An ability to drive these high standards is essential. All Lecturers have a generic list of duties (see below). Duties specific to the Lecturer in Uniformed Services include: - • Teaching on a range of subjects associated with Uniformed Services, including NCFE Levels 1 – 5 and Higher National Diploma (HE), • Minimum of Level 3 qualification, • A recognised full teaching qualification for the FE sector at Level 5 or above (e.g. PGCE, DET)** or willingness and ability to work towards a teaching qualification, supported by the College, • English and Maths at GCSE Grade C / 4 or equivalent, or willing to achieve, • Experience of working in the Uniformed Public Services (Armed Forces and/or Emergency Services), • Up to date knowledge of the relevant subject area, • Willingness to engage in outdoor pursuits and residential activities, • Ability to deliver fitness training, • The ability to engage and inspire vocational learners, primarily aged 16-19, • Good communication skills, written and verbal, • Good interpersonal skills, • Good classroom practice, • Good IT skills, • Ability to use IT/e-learning within the curriculum, • Ability and willingness to work flexibly, including early morning start time (8.00am) when required, • Good administration/organisational skills We are dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment.
