The Data Specialist will play a critical role in assisting the Program Director and New York Edge in running reports and tracking data which details the program's successes, highlights, and deficits. Summary: The Beacon Outreach Coordinator will assist in the overall administration of the Beacon Program including but not limited to: regular and substantial direct services to youth and adults, implementation of community activities, strengthen family engagement, scheduling of evening and Saturday activities, daily supervision of co-locators, record keeping and reporting, communicating with parents and organizing special events. The activity instructor will teach or co-lead activities in one of the following areas: STEM, visual art, performing art, literacy, student leadership and character development, sports, health and wellness, business, finance and entrepreneurship, math, media arts, journalism, botany, and urban agriculture, history. The activity instructor has a dual reporting role, supporting the curriculum and instruction department team by designing lesson plans and implementing curricula across New York Edge program sites. They will also support the program director by preparing activity materials and explaining principles, techniques, and safety procedures to student participants. The Literacy Specialist is a multi-site instructional leader who collaborates closely with a team of Site Directors to support front-line staff (Academic Enrichment Coaches and Activity Specialists) in delivering Literacy-based curricula and thematic projects. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible. * Organize, lead, and promote interest in arts activities such as Cosmetology. * Organize performance groups and direct their rehearsals. * Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students. * Ascertain and interpret group interests, evaluate equipment and facilities, and adapt activities to meet the student’s needs. * Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities. * Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures to participants in the activities and demonstrate the use of materials and equipment. * Evaluate activities to determine if they are producing desired results. * Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs and interests. * Progressive development of student skills leading to a final project REQUIRED SKILLS * Must be knowledgeable and skilled in a variety of cosmetology * Prior experience teaching and instructing youth preferred * Must be able to follow a curriculum * Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual! * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required * Instructs, manages, and supervises students in the classroom and the beauty space. * Teaches a variety of courses in nail technology, hair styling, and other beautifying arts while lecturing on the theory, techniques, and terminology used in the cosmetology profession * Organizes a program of practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills used by hairstylists, manicurists, make-up artists, and other workers in the beauty industry * Prepares outline of instructional lesson plan and assembles materials to be presented * Evaluates the student’s understanding of the learning objectives via careful performance and execution of the hands-on activities * Maintains desirable classroom conditions and a student-oriented approach * May be required to walk up and down stairs. * May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed. * Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with the community at-large during trips or events. * Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS * High School Diploma or Equivalent required; some college preferred * A minimum of one year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required. * A minimum of one year of teaching experience is required. * Must have passion for New York Edge's mission and demonstrated interest in education and youth development. * Candidates qualified to lead instruction in more than one activity are also preferred. WORK SCHEDULE * 9-15 hours per week. * Monday through Friday -- 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm The Cosmetology Specialist must report to the school building and interact with staff, students, parents, and school administration. Summary: New York Edge is seeking a Part-Time Assistant Director who will assist in the overall administration of the New York Edge After-School Program under the supervision of the After-School Program Director, including but not limited to implementing enrichment activities, theme-based projects, scheduling activities, daily supervision of staff, record keeping and reporting, communicating with parents, and organizing special events. The Assistant Director covers the site in the absence of ASPD under the supervision of the Program Manager. Schedule: Monday – Friday (Days/shifts vary depending on site needs, usually 12pm - 6pm) This role requires you to be in person. Pay: $25 - $30/hour Essential Job Functions: * Directly responsible for the overall supervision of academic counselors and an academic component of the after-school program * Prepare alternative activities to implement during homework sessions that complement the academic session * Provide a seamless day that aligns homework sessions with day school standards of learning * Responsible for leading trips off-site and supervising students and staff for the duration of the entire outing * Encourage and lead projects that foster academic, cultural, and artistic growth * Provide coverage for activity specialists * Promote teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship, including ultimate responsibility for youth behavior at the site and on trips. * Communicate the program’s challenges, progress, and success with After-School Program Director. * Ensures the Afterschool program is compliant with all DYCD, DOE, and DOHMH regulations and timelines and stays abreast of all local, state, and federal pandemic management conditions and requirements. * Other duties as assigned Required Skills: * Able to work late afternoons and/or evenings. * Knowledgeable and skilled in Academics, Sports, or Arts programs and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth in Academics, Sports, or Arts. * Knowledge of the New York City Department of Education Qualifications: * Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's Degree or demonstration of actively completing a B.A. Degree. * A minimum of one year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.
