Job Description JOB DEFINITION: The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is to provide Psychiatric Assessments and medication management to children and adults experiencing a behavioral health crisis within a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week to Crisis Stabilization Center. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: • Masters' degree in advanced nursing practice in psychiatry from an accredited program., • New York State license and registration as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry., • Current DEA registration., • Certification required in Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) (i.e., suboxone). DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Provides psychiatric and substance abuse care and medication to appropriate clients applying standards of care consistent with good medical judgment and current practice in the psychiatric community. This can include the administration of intramuscular medication when appropriate., • Provides psychiatric and substance abuse examination for the purpose of diagnostic evaluation, determination of treatment needs and prognostic factors. This includes using all reasonable methods to detect the presence of danger to self or others and collaboration with the treatment team to implement appropriate precautions., • Monitors the pharmacological effects of prescribed psychotropic medications and notifies the team of their reported effectiveness., • Is available for consultation with staff regarding relevant issues in the client medical background and collaborates with appropriate professionals in the community to integrate agency treatment with overall medical care., • Contributes to the timely production of all necessary reports to other agencies concerning clients who they have examined and/or treated., • Prescribe for appropriate laboratory testing indicated in collaboration with the treating physician and/or conducts any other relevant studies or tests. Implements any follow-up needed., • Efficiently uses time management skills to maximize availability for direct client contact., • Collaborates with other members of the treatment team in providing, • integrated care. This may include appropriate outreach when indicated., • Establishes and maintains appropriate and timely clinical case records, including, but not limited to, treatment plans, progress notes and treatment plan reviews, documenting appropriate therapeutic intervention with each client to the Agency, funding, licensing and billing authorities., • Works as part of the ICSC team; attends and participates in team meetings to provide input/feedback around psychosocial conditions/comorbidities to review client status, update plans and goals, review outcomes to further program goals., • Assist the program to provide crisis intervention and follow-up on an as-needed basis 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Reviews the staff communications log and makes entries concerning essential elements of information designated by program management., 16. Executes emergency plans as outlined in the policy and procedure manual. Administers CPR or first aid to staff or consumers who are injured., 17. Assists in the orientation of new personnel when requested., 18. Complies with attendance and timekeeping rules and reports reliably and regularly to work on an on-going basis., 19. Attends regularly scheduled clinical meetings, staff meetings and supervision as well as in-service training and development activities., 20. Complies with agency infection control policies., 21. Advocates on behalf of consumer with outside service providers and within ICL., 22. Assists resident/consumer in finding and getting into vocational training or other training opportunities, and works with other team members (Substance Abuse Specialist, Nurse) in addressing the needs of consumers., 23. Ability to be ethical- to understand and adhere to internal and external laws, rules, and policies MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree plus 1year experience providing direct services to individuals with mental disabilities. Minimum experience requirements are waived for candidates with a bachelor’s degree that required a one-year practicum working directly with individuals with mental disabilities (e.g., BSW); or an associate's degree in a human services related field and two years of experience in human services; CASE MANAGER TRAINEE: Otherwise qualified candidates who lack the indicated number of years of experience may be offered employment as Case Manager Trainees at a reduced salary, until the experience requirements are met.
