Café Manager Downtown Newark, NJ | Full-time | On-site Compensation: $50,000–$60,000 annually, depending on experience Schedule: Approximately 40 hours per week. Café operating hours are 6:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. Availability for scheduled opening, daytime, and closing shifts, including weekends, is required. LaTasse Café specializes in coffee, pastries, sandwiches, fresh juices, and smoothies. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Café Manager to lead our team and take responsibility for daily operations. Reporting directly to the owner, you will manage staffing, service, inventory, and operating costs. You must be comfortable preparing coffee, serving customers, and supporting employees during busy periods. Key responsibilities • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise café employees., • Manage attendance, shift coverage, and employee performance., • Lead opening, closing, and shift handover procedures., • Prepare espresso drinks and other beverages, take orders, and operate the register when needed., • Coordinate in-person service with online, pickup, and delivery orders., • Ensure orders are accurate, properly packaged, and ready on time., • Monitor ordering platforms, update item availability, and resolve customer or delivery issues., • Maintain consistent recipes, portions, presentation, and customer service., • Enforce food safety, allergen precautions, hygiene, and cleaning procedures., • Manage inventory, supplier orders, receiving, and waste., • Reconcile cash and POS totals and investigate discrepancies promptly., • Control labor hours and purchasing within approved budgets., • Submit a concise weekly report covering sales, staffing, costs, and operational issues. Required qualifications • At least two years of café, coffee shop, or comparable food service management or supervisory experience., • Current ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification or an equivalent accepted by the New Jersey Department of Health. Proof required before hiring., • Hands-on experience using commercial espresso equipment and preparing espresso-based drinks., • Experience training employees, scheduling shifts, managing inventory, and reconciling cash., • Ability to supervise online orders while maintaining efficient counter service., • Strong leadership, customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills., • Ability to run shifts independently and follow through reliably., • A dependable commute to Downtown Newark., • Flexible availability for opening, daytime, and closing shifts, including weekends. Experience with Clover, Odoo, DoorDash, or Uber Eats is preferred.
