Job DescriptionJob Title: Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician Job Description This role maintains plant equipment in optimal operating condition by performing preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring safe, efficient production. Working under general direction, the Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician diagnoses and repairs mechanical and electrical systems on production, packaging, and processing equipment to support continuous operations and high product quality. Responsibilities • Perform planned preventive and unplanned corrective maintenance on production, packaging, and processing equipment to ensure optimal functioning of machinery and minimize downtime., • Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns and perform effective repairs to restore equipment to service quickly and safely., • Inspect machines and equipment regularly to locate problems, replace defective parts, and make necessary adjustments to maintain continuous production operations., • Use a variety of hand and power tools to remove, install, replace, rebuild, repair, and test parts and equipment on plant and production machinery., • Troubleshoot and maintain a wide range of equipment, including motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), refrigeration systems, mixers, conveyors, sensors, printers, and packaging equipment., • Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, electrical schematics, service manuals, and work orders to perform maintenance and service accurately., • Complete work orders in a timely manner while maintaining high quality standards and thorough documentation., • Maintain clear communication with other departments, leadership, and employees to report problems and concerns that could impact production efficiency., • Ensure all paperwork and maintenance records are complete, clear, legible, accurate, and documented in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs)., • Apply a continuous improvement mindset by identifying opportunities to enhance maintenance processes, equipment reliability, and overall plant performance., • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and support food safety by maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe work area., • Adhere to required safe work practices, including lockout/tagout procedures, proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE), safe chemical handling, and use of fall protection and other safety systems as required., • Operate forklifts and material handling equipment safely as needed to perform maintenance tasks and move equipment or materials., • Handle chemicals and dry materials correctly, following all safety guidelines and recognizing potential hazards., • Support other maintenance functions as needed, including welding, fabrication, and general facility upkeep.Essential Skills, • High School Diploma or GED preferred., • Formal engineering or maintenance training desired., • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a maintenance role within a manufacturing facility, preferably in the food and beverage industry., • Minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more technical disciplines such as electrical, mechanical, PLC, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, computer-controlled equipment, or HVAC., • Minimum of 2 years of experience with lubricating, cleaning, materials handling, motor control, relay control, process control, and packaging equipment., • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems on industrial equipment., • Ability to inspect equipment, recognize potential problems, and independently take appropriate corrective action to prevent component failures or equipment downtime., • Ability to evaluate, repair, and operate production equipment, including troubleshooting, changing, maintaining, and repairing warehouse equipment., • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, including experience with industrial equipment maintenance., • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and maintenance technician responsibilities in an industrial environment., • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, electrical schematics, service manuals, and work orders., • Ability to accurately add, multiply, and divide in units of measure and follow written and verbal directions., • Computer literacy and accurate data entry skills for maintenance documentation and work order systems., • Skilled operation of stand-up and sit-down forklifts., • Proficiency using hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment., • Capability to correctly handle chemicals and dry materials with awareness of associated hazards., • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Professional experience with ammonia refrigeration systems preferred., • Experience with PLC troubleshooting in an industrial environment., • Experience working in a food or beverage manufacturing environment with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)., • Experience maintaining equipment such as motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), refrigeration systems, mixers, conveyors, sensors, printers, and packaging equipment., • Welding skills and experience performing basic fabrication or repair work., • Strong attention to detail in documentation, including clear and legible completion of maintenance records and SOP-related forms., • Ability to maintain effective communication with cross-functional teams and support a culture of continuous improvement., • Comfort working in environments where products may contain peanuts and tree nuts., • Ability to meet physical demands including frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, twisting, pushing, pulling, and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds., • Ability Work Environment This position operates on 3rd shift, typically from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with the expectation of working flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed to support production demands. The role is based in a standard production environment with exposure to noise, humidity, and temperature changes, including potential work outdoors when maintenance requires it. The facility manufactures products that may contain peanuts and tree nuts. The job requires frequent operation of machinery and forklifts, as well as regular use of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment. Physical demands include frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, squatting, kneeling, crawling, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, reaching vertically and horizontally, and lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, often for most of the shift. Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to distinguish colors. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Brunswick, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $40.00/hr.
