Job Description This phlebotomist role focuses on performing high-quality blood draws and specimen collections while supporting smooth laboratory workflow in a fast-paced, ER-style environment. You will collect, process, and prepare specimens according to established procedures, assist with troubleshooting and training, and help improve workflow efficiency. The position involves frequent patient interaction, so clear communication, strong customer service, and attention to detail are essential. Responsibilities • Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, demonstrating proper technique and ensuring patient comfort and safety., • Collect and store blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens according to established procedures and test requirements., • Explain venipuncture, blood draw, and other specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients., • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify that all patient and test information is accurate and complete., • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders, maintaining specimen integrity., • Check all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against orders or scripts to ensure 100% accuracy., • Package specimens for transport, following protocols for temperature, containers, and handling to preserve specimen quality., • Store specimen samples at the required temperature and place them in appropriate collection containers or tubes, following all procedural guidelines., • Update and maintain patient information accurately in electronic medical records and laboratory systems., • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as required to support a clean and safe laboratory environment., • Assist with troubleshooting issues related to specimen collection, processing, and workflow, and make recommendations to improve efficiency., • Attend and complete required annual department trainings to stay current with procedures and regulations., • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety and compliance standards., • Answer telephone calls professionally and read laboratory results as needed to respond to inquiries within scope of role., • Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, where required., • Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting., • High school diploma or GED., • 2–4 years of overall work experience., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite., • Demonstrated experience performing blood draws and venipuncture using different gauges and phlebotomy techniques., • Ability to collect, label, and process specimens accurately, including centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required., • Ability to enter data accurately in different electronic medical record (EMR) systems., • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate matching of requisitions and specimen labels and error-free data entry., • Excellent customer service skills to support a high volume of patients in a fast-paced environment., • Some prior phlebotomy experience is required; experience as a Phlebotomy Technician or Medical Assistant is acceptable., • Phlebotomy certification is preferred where not mandated, but not strictly required in all locations., • Experience working in an ER-style or high-throughput clinical environment is highly beneficial., • Comfort working with a wide range of patients and adapting communication style to individual needs., • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities during busy periods. You will work in a fast-paced clinical environment set up similarly to an emergency department, with more than 100 patients passing through daily in some locations. The role involves standing, walking, and moving between patients and laboratory areas throughout the shift. For fixed-site roles, typical hours include Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with additional weekday hours (up to approximately 35 hours) to reach a full-time schedule. For float positions, you may travel between multiple sites within the region and work 8-hour shifts scheduled anytime between approximately 6:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., with alternating Saturday shifts (about 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.). You will use standard phlebotomy and laboratory equipment, including various needle gauges, butterfly needles, centrifuges, specimen containers, and electronic medical record systems. The environment is professional and patient-focused, requiring adherence to all safety, infection control, and regulatory standards. Dress is typically clinical and professional to support direct patient care and compliance with safety protocols. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saratoga Springs, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
