SUMMARY The Director of Advocacy leads the agency’s survivor-centered advocacy programs, overseeing the delivery of trauma-informed, culturally responsive services to individuals impacted by domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. This role ensures operational excellence across the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Hotlines, and Sexual Violence Response Crisis Response, legal advocacy, counseling, systems navigation, and community engagement, while advancing the agency’s mission through strategic partnerships and policy initiatives. , Program Leadership & Supervision • Oversee day-to-day operations of advocacy services, including hotline, hospital accompaniment, legal advocacy, and systems navigation, • Supervise, train, and mentor advocacy staff, interns, and volunteers with a trauma-informed, empowerment-based approach, • Ensure compliance with funder requirements, ethical standards, and best practices in victim services Systems Advocacy & Collaboration • Cultivate and manage partnerships with law enforcement, healthcare providers, courts, and community agencies, • As assigned, represent the agency in multidisciplinary teams, task forces, and policy coalitions Strategic Planning & Evaluation • Develop and maintain Advocacy Program Policies, Procedures, and Protocols., • Develop and implement program goals and evaluation tools, • Monitor service trends and emerging needs to inform program growth and innovation, • Contribute to grant writing, reporting, and outcome measurement Survivor-Centered Services • Maintain a limited caseload of high-acuity clients, modeling best practices in advocacy, • Ensure services are accessible, inclusive, and responsive to diverse survivor experiences, • Uphold confidentiality, safety planning, and informed consent in all interactions Training & Community Engagement • As assigned, design and deliver training for professionals, community members, and stakeholders, • Support public awareness campaigns, outreach, and fundraising initiatives Responsibilities: Supervisory: • Ensure quality control and accuracy of all agency advocacy reports., • Assign cases to advocates and provide supervisory guidance to all staff., • Ensure SAFE, DV, or other medical response and courtroom advocates are calendared for accompaniment., • Ensure calendar coverage for 24-hour hotline, emergency department response and chat., • Ensure Hotline Books are up-to-date., • Ensure Hotline logs are reviewed for quality services., • Conduct weekly meetings with advocacy staff to review cases, weekly and statistical reports., • Review OVS applications., • Collect and evaluate for accuracy all agency functional time sheets on a monthly basis., • Complete agency statistical reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis., • Coordinate with law enforcement on CVC referrals and conduct trainings for police and administrative personnel as assigned., • Recruit per-diem counselors and coordinate their rape crisis certifications., • Make recommendations for the updating of agency policies and procedures., • Submit to regular audits of case files and statistical reports., • Perform personnel performance evaluations as directed. Victim Advocacy and Reporting: • You will be required to maintain a caseload, answer the Hotline and provide rape crisis emergency response during non-office hours., • Complete daily Data Reporting requirements., • Conduct and participate in advocacy trainings., • Attend specialized training to improve response to the needs of rape and sexual assault and all victims of violent crime., • Complete advocacy outreach initiatives as assigned., • Provide up-to-date, training to all non-advocacy staff that have telephone contact with any caller., • Complete crime victim comprehensive intakes (refer to intake forms) and make appropriate referrals for services, treatment, compensation, medical, legal, law enforcement and social services. Follow-up referrals given. Ensure all victims and non-offending family members are: • Counseled, provided crisis intervention, emotional support, criminal justice advocacy, referrals and guidance, • Educated about their right as crime victims, • Educated about the family court and criminal justice process, • Educated regarding available services (including medical, food, clothing, etc.) and provided multi-agency referrals (minimum 3) and provide assistance as needed., • Provided law enforcement referrals as needed, • Provided courtroom and medical accompaniment as needed, • Provided NYS and other state Victim Compensation program claim assistance and assistance in application for eligible reimbursements and assistance with VINE registration, • Provided assistance in the preparation of Victim Impact Statements (using established format) and act as an intermediary between family and criminal justice and social service agencies (DA, PA, Probation, DSS, CSE), • In cases of sexual assault, provide information regarding sex offender registration. Additional Responsibilities: • Supervision over advocacy and counseling services daily administrative activities., • Ensure that all CVC literature is in place in targeted areas such as police precincts, DA’s office, schools, hospitals, SANE Centers, CAC etc. as assigned in outreach plan., • Present Agency Outreach presentations as required, • Train new staff and interns, • Prepare for program audits, • Monitor and participate in ongoing case review and supervision., • Participate in the new recruit screening process for staff and interns. MINIMUM EDUCATION & ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: • Master’s degree in social work, public administration, law, or related field preferred, • Minimum 5 years’ experience in gender-based violence advocacy, with supervisory experience, • DV/L and Rape Crisis Counselor Certification - training will be provided, • Deep understanding of trauma, • Exceptional communication, documentation, and boundary-setting skills, • Experience with criminal and family court procedures, • Excellent research, telephone, interpersonal and presentation skills., • Excellent communication, public speaking, computer (Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and interpersonal skills needed., • Analytical, self-starter, well organized.
