Job Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Sr. Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for keeping machinery and equipment used in an industrial environment operating effectively. This position is an essential part of the success of the business, and requires proactive thinking to evaluate equipment and problems, diagnose and repair potential problems before critical failure, as well as recommend and make improvements to eliminate repetitive problems or inefficient processes. You will be required to use your acquired mechanical and electrical skills, as well as seeking information from others to find and implement the best possible solutions to keep machinery and equipment in top-notch condition and running efficiently as possible. The Sr. Maintenance Mechanic is expected to diagnose issues using knowledge and experience, as well as collaborating with other technical . experts to resolve issues and implement improvements. Requires ability to think and reason, initiative to move forward to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal guidance, and conduct all business dealings in a professional manner at all times. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Provide representation on behalf of Reliance Vitamin by providing known information in absence of Manufacturing Engineering Manager as needed to internal and external requesters such as Auditors and Inspectors., • Provide representation on behalf of Reliance Vitamin in Emergencies, interacting with local Emergency Officials such as Fire and Police Departments as needed., • Maintain up to date knowledge and details of key utility systems such as Fire Safety Systems, Electrical, Plumbing, Compressed Air, Explosion Suppression, Natural Gas, and Water Systems., • Inspect machines and equipment regularly for signs of potential malfunctions, including visual inspections, listening for irregular noises, and other preventative measures., • Communicate with machine operators frequently to understand repetitive issue., • Implement Preventative Measures and Activities that will help reduce the risk of equipment failure., • Perform emergency repairs safely and with a sense of urgency. Work with outside resources such as vendors when needed to return equipment back to service as quickly as possible., • Utilizing your experience, be a Champion for Safety, bringing awareness and implementing improvements to keep all coworkers safe. Practice safe work habits by using proper and required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times, and reminding coworkers if necessary., • Prioritize work schedule by understanding the criticality and sense of urgency of the tasks, and communicate with appropriate supervisors and managers to make sure the most urgent tasks are_ being performed first., • Always maintain a clean work area. Work urgently but safely and with care, following all GMP and Safety Guidelines., • Work in a Professional Manner with all coworkers and team members, treating everyone with respect and dignity at all times., • Utilize CMMS to manage Maintenance Work Order$, Inventory, and Equipment. Complete and generate Work Orders daily. Complete Parts Requisitions and Parts Removal Transactions for all Parts removed from stock., • Complete all Regulatory and Required Paperwork in a timely manner as required., • Complete all Reports and Recordkeeping Documents as requested., • Provide Departmental Leadership by assisting mechanics with technical issues, work planning, and technical problem solving. Teach other Mechanics procedures and technical details on new and existing equipment where more knowledge is needed., • Provide guidance to Mechanics on work prioritization and planning in absence of Manufacturing Engineering Manager., • Communicate Daily with Manufacturing Supervisors and Managers on what their priorities are. · Above is not a complete list, but rather a highlight of some of the important tasks required of the position. Physical Demands • Work near moving mechanical parts., • Work near energized electrical circuits and components., • Reach with hands and arms. Sit and/or stand for long periods of time (8 hours), • Utilize a Computer Monitor/Screen or hand held device., • Climb and/or balance utilizing step or extension ladders, aerial lift equipment., • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds., • Push and pull up to 100 pounds., • Must be able to wear PPE as required. Given the operation of various types of moving equipment used in the facility, adequate communication and observational skills are required, including seeing, speaking and hearing. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports to the Sr. Facilities and Maintenance Manager Critical Operating Relationships: Maintenance Staff Operations Personnel QUALIFICATIONS: Education: · Must have a High School Diploma or GED, Advanced technical or college training preferred. Experience: Strong Mechanical and Industrial Experience background. Five+ Years in an Industrial Mechanic position KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: · Experience with Industrial Electrical Controls, able to read Electrical Schematics and understand symbols. Experience and understanding of components such as transformers, power supplies, motors, AC/DC circuitry, starters, relays, load cells, safety relays, potentiometers · Knowledge and understanding of a PLC's basic operation, able to replace/rewire and program VFD's, and Servo Motors & Controllers. · Experience with Mechanical & Mechanical Drive systems and components, such as gearboxes, chain and belt drive systems, bearings, bushings, slides, different types of · ge rs, standard and metric fasteners, couplings, clutches, and specialty fasteners and pins. · Experience with Pneumatic and Hydraulic systems, including understanding of all system components and how they work. · Basic Welding Skills, able to make emergency repairs · Basic Plumbing Skills, able to make emergency repairs, new installations with copper and black pipe. · Must be able to read Technical Manuals, Mechanical, and Electrical Drawings/Schematics. · Proficient in the use of hand and power tools commonly found in typical maintenance shops. · Able to manufacture basic parts using Lathe and Milling machines. · Understand Metric and Standard measuring systems, and how to perform conversions. · Experienced in Safe Work Practices of an Industrial Mechanic. Familiarity of OSHA safety standards and regulations. Able to complete all required Safety Training required of an industrial manufacturing setting. · Must be able to use a Personal Computer and use Internet, Mail, and have basic MS Excel and Word skills. Able to use Internet to search for replacement parts or new processes for improvements. · Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate with Machine Operators and Supervisors, vendors, technicians, and other technical resources when needed. · Excellent Organizational Skills. · Must be able to pass certifications and operate Industrial Lift Equipment, including Forklift and Scissor Lift. · Must be able to stand for 8 hours, able to lift heavy objects (50 lbs.), use ladders and work from heights, work in tight and/or awkward spaces, work in extreme hot or cold conditions. · Must be able to conduct business in a professional manner at all times with internal and external contacts. · Must have a valid Driver's License.
