Job DescriptionPhiladelphia/New Jersey Agent Role Objectives: Agent is the entry level operations position in training to be responsible for fulfilling ship owner service requests, preparation of paperwork and compliance related to incoming and outgoing ships, as well as to order appropriate resources for and notify port authorities of ships arrivals and departures. The Agent works under the direct supervision and training of the Full Agent. Key Responsibilities: • Prepare Ship file, including coversheet, • Become familiar with various port areas, • Accompany Full Agents when boarding vessels, • Under supervision of Full Agent, learn the following:, • o How to declare dangerous cargo for inbound and outbound cargo, • o How to order pilots, tugs, linesmen, and bunkering services, • o How to calculate port expenses for various ports/terminals, • o How to announce vessels at various authorities, • o How to prepare various cargo documents, such as customs forms, waste forms, immigration forms, etc., • Review incoming invoices and compare with valid tariffs for Port Managers final approval, • Prepare various statistical information, as needed, • Become familiar with various types of vessels, including Gas and Chemical Tankers, • Other duties as assignedPhysical Requirements:, • Required to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps; reach; stand; walk; talk; and hear, • Must exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, • Close visual acuity is required to perform activities such as analyzing figures, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, visual inspection, and using measurement devices, • Worker is subject to environmental conditions both inside and outside, with no effective protection from weather, with sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard, and to physical hazards, such as moving parts, vehicles, electricity, heights, and large bodies of deep waterSkill Requirements:, • Organizational skills, • Ability to learn quickly, • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays and to be on call 24/7, in case of emergencyKnowledge Requirements:, • Simple math skills and basic statistics required to calculate port expenses and tariffsEducation:, • High school diploma or GED preferredExperience:, • Prior experience with ships, tugs, etc. and accompanying paperwork requirements preferredSalary:, • Salary/hourly range depends on experience and overtime worked.
