Job Description Job Title: Dean of Students (DOS) Reports to: Principal Coaching and Support provided by: Principal Employment Terms: 12-month position Job Description: Under the direction of the Principal, the Dean of Students is responsible for overseeing and managing our Response to Behavior (RTB) system and plan of support at LEEP. This may include student conduct, discipline, safety, and well-being, as well as student activities and programs that promote a positive school culture. The Dean of Students works closely with students, parents, and faculty to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment and to help students achieve their full potential. The Dean of Students may also collaborate with community partners to provide resources and support to students and families. Responsibilities Student Support: Discipline and Behavior Management: • Enforces the school vision and implementation of Responsive Classroom., • Fosters and supports consistency in academic and behavioral expectations in and out of class, school, and after-school program., • Develop, implement and enforce school-wide disciplinary policies and procedures as well as school wide systems & routines related to response to behavior., • Collect and analyze student discipline and behavior data to identify trends and areas for improvement. Use data to develop and implement targeted interventions., • Collaborate with school administration and security personnel to ensure the safety and security of students and staff., • Leads the development, training, and implementation of all RTB (Response to Behavior) initiatives and programs including CICO., • Leads school culture initiatives that promote a sense of belonging and are aligned with LEEP's core virtues and mission statement., • Coordinate and oversee student activities, such as clubs, sports, and events., • Reinforce positive student behavior and establish rapport with students and their families., • Helps to maintain a safe, positive and orderly learning environment for staff and students., • Partner with the PTO leadership team to strengthen the school/home partnership., • Acts in a supportive role with the Principal(DSS) in working with parents, teachers, and the community to promote the effective flow of communication., • In partnership with school counselors, address the social-emotional needs of students through the use of research-based strategies., • Address questions regarding academic programming that families may have., • Execute plan for involving parents in students' academic and character development., • Conduct meetings with students and families., • Circulates throughout the day and is a visible presence in the school for staff, students, and families., • Review and provide feedback on Monthly Family Newsletter to ensure newsletters include information regarding cultural programming and tools families can use to support scholar learning., • Provide training on classroom management and behavioral interventions., • Observe, coach and mentor instructional staff to ensure that teachers are creating a warm, structured, and responsive classroom culture., • Provide bite-sized and actionable feedback to teachers using "Six Steps to Effective Feedback.", • Anchor observations and feedback in the "LEEP Way" framework of instructional practices., • Monitor and assess teacher performance and report to the DSS via weekly one-on -one meetings., • Directly oversees the work and development of (1) Culture Associate as their direct report., • Assist teachers to develop strong partnerships with parents by enhancing communications, • Monitor teacher communication with families to ensure all families receive at least 2 touchpoints monthly., • Has alignment to and a sense of urgency around LEEP Academy Dual Language Charter School's mission & core virtues, • Has the ability to learn quickly and to be effective in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment and is able to work autonomously and thoroughly, as well as take direction as needed., • Is deeply self-reflective, passionate and committed to world-class schooling and excellence., • Has a deep desire to codify best practices in instruction and leadership., • Is an excellent team player, always puts the team's goals first and works to support and motivate peers., • Has excellent project management skills with proven systems to maintain integrity and efficiency., • Is a leader with conviction who knows how to build relationships across teams and can inspire their school community., • Has grit and courage in the face of really difficult work., • Is a proven people manager with the ability to set measurable goals to promote advancement of their school community., • Strong interpersonal skills: The ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff is essential., • Leadership skills: The Dean of students should be able to inspire and motivate others, and provide guidance and support to promote a positive school culture., • Knowledge of school policies and procedures: An understanding of school policies and procedures is necessary to enforce rules and regulations and ensure student safety and well-being., • Conflict Analysis and Resolution: The Dean of students should be able to identify and resolve student-related issues in a proactive and efficient manner., • Knowledge of student development and behavior: Understanding the stages of student development and behavior can help the DoS anticipate and address potential issues., • Strong organizational skills: The ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities is important for deans of students, who are often responsible for coordinating student activities and programs. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors • The language of our school is Spanish. Maintaining the language in all aspects of the work is valued., • Work is generally confined to the school or campus, requiring those activities common to the environment., • Work requires sufficient mobility to patrol halls and school grounds, and to climb stairs in some buildings., • Lifting light objects may be necessary., • Operational duties such as arrival/dismissal duties & lunch/recess coverage duties will be required. The starting salary will depend on multiple factors including professional experience, education, and certifications. This role is a full-time position. Qualifications: • Master's degree in education preferred, • Minimum 5 years classroom teaching experience required, • School administrative or charter school leadership experience preferred, • Experience in a dual language setting preferred, • Must be completely fluent in both English & Spanish (speaking, reading, writing & listening), • student activities, and school/parent academic programs., • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, other administrators, and the community.
