Job DescriptionJob Title: Handyman / Facilities Maintenance Technician Job Description The Handyman / Facilities Maintenance Technician supports general facility upkeep within a food manufacturing plant, ensuring the building, non-production equipment, and infrastructure remain safe, sanitary, and fully operational. This role focuses on performing repairs, conducting routine inspections, supporting facility operations, and following GMP, food safety, and safety compliance standards to minimize disruptions to production. Responsibilities • Perform general repair work in office and plant areas, including carpentry, painting, drywall repair, and other basic maintenance tasks., • Maintain the overall condition of facility spaces such as walls, floors, ceilings, doors, lighting, restrooms, locker rooms, and breakrooms., • Conduct routine inspections of the facility to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and potential issues before they impact operations., • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders to minimize disruption to production and daily operations., • Perform minor repairs on non-production equipment and coordinate larger or more complex issues with the maintenance team., • Follow GMP, sanitation, contamination-prevention, and food safety procedures while completing all maintenance and repair activities., • Adhere to safety standards and practices when working with tools, equipment, and in all areas of the facility., • Maintain tools, parts, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition to support efficient and effective maintenance work., • Assist with facility improvement and continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing safety, efficiency, and overall facility condition., • Interpret basic blueprints or diagrams as needed to support installation, repair, and service tasks., • Support efforts to keep the facility in safe working condition by identifying and addressing building and equipment concerns in a timely manner.Essential Skills, • Experience performing general repairs, including carpentry, painting, drywall, and basic building maintenance., • Facilities and building maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment., • Basic HVAC knowledge and electrical experience sufficient to support work on HVAC systems under appropriate guidance., • Plumbing repair skills for minor facility-related plumbing issues., • Ability to perform installation and service tasks related to facility fixtures and non-production equipment., • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints or technical drawings., • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues efficiently., • Ability to safely operate hand tools and power tools in accordance with safety procedures., • Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks independently in a fast-paced environment., • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling tasks throughout the shift.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a food manufacturing environment is preferred., • Understanding of food safety and contamination-prevention practices in a production facility., • Comfort working in a refrigerated environment at approximately 40 degrees for extended periods., • Attention to detail and a strong focus on cleanliness and sanitation in all maintenance activities., • Ability to communicate effectively with production and maintenance teams to coordinate work and minimize downtime.Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a first-shift position with typical hours from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The role is based in a food manufacturing facility that follows strict GMP guidelines, including specific rules regarding personal items and attire while on the production floor. You will work in and around a refrigerated environment maintained at approximately 40 degrees for extended periods, with frequent exposure to temperature changes, noise, dust, fumes, and other atmospheric conditions typical of a food manufacturing plant. The environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, and you will regularly move throughout office, production, and utility areas while performing maintenance tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Piscataway, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
