RF Passives & Subsystems Trainee (PRF) Location: Madrid — Tres Cantos / Hybrid Department: Procurement Contract type: Internship Duration: 1 year Working hours: Full-time, as applicable Role overview Are you passionate about RF/microwave passive components and eager to work end-to-end from EM design to lab validation and subsystem integration? Join the RF Product Line (Passives & Subsystems) as a Trainee. You will contribute to the design, simulation, prototyping, and test of passive RF components (filters, multiplexers, couplers, dividers/combiners, duplexers, waveguide components, antenna feed chains) and support their integration into RF subsystems. You will also explore AI/ML techniques to accelerate design, optimization, and test data analysis. We work as a collaborative “hive-mind” with daily stand-ups, knowledge sharing, and dedicated mentoring—so you’re always part of a team and never working alone. 🛠️ Key responsibilities • Design and EM simulation of passive RF components: optimize for insertion loss, return loss, isolation, group delay, power handling, and PIM performance using tools like HFSS/CST and circuit-level tools (e.g., ADS/Genesys)., • Build and verify breadboards/prototypes in the lab: set up and run VNA measurements (S-parameters, group delay), perform accurate calibrations (SOLT/TRL, waveguide kits), manage fixturing/de-embedding, and contribute to PIM/linearity checks where applicable., • Support passive RF subsystems: assist in the design, assembly, and integration of multiplexers, RF distribution networks, and antenna feed subsystems; help with troubleshooting and performance tuning., • Generate engineering documentation: electrical analyses, test procedures, test plans, and test reports; contribute to BoMs and design packages; support design reviews and configuration control., • Apply AI/ML and data analytics: develop surrogate models to speed up EM sweeps, run design-space exploration/optimization (e.g., Bayesian/genetic), and analyze lab data for anomaly detection and performance prediction (Python/MATLAB)., • Participate in daily stand-ups and team rituals: share progress, blockers, and learnings; collaborate closely with your mentor and cross-functional teams (mechanical, systems, test, manufacturing). 🧠 Candidate profile • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronic, or similar) is required; a Master’s degree is a plus (completed or in progress). Focus on RF/microwave strongly preferred., • Technical knowledge:, • Microwave network theory, transmission lines, waveguide/microstrip/SIW fundamentals., • Passive components: filter synthesis (e.g., Chebyshev, cross-coupled), couplers, power dividers/combiners, duplexers/multiplexers, cavity/waveguide components, antenna feeds., • Awareness of high-power/passive behavior: PIM basics, thermal/mechanical constraints, materials and surface finishes., • Tools and methods:, • EM/circuit simulation: HFSS, CST, ADS/Genesys (or similar)., • Lab instrumentation: VNA calibration and measurement best practices; familiarity with PIM/analyzer setups is a plus., • Data and scripting: MATLAB and/or Python for data processing, optimization, and ML (scikit-learn/TensorFlow/PyTorch a plus)., • Soft skills: Team player with initiative and autonomy, strong commitment, problem-solver, attention to detail, proactive learning mindset., • Culture and language: Multicultural mindset; English proficiency required., • Availability: Full-time; on-site lab presence as required. 🎓 What we offer? • Hands-on experience across the passive RF lifecycle: synthesis, EM modeling, prototyping, measurement, and subsystem integration., • Exposure to industry-standard EM/circuit tools and state-of-the-art RF lab equipment., • Practical introduction to AI/ML applied to RF design and test data analytics., • Continuous mentoring, daily knowledge sharing, and a supportive team environment., • Support for formal studies: Master’s programme through UEMC and study allowance of €1,000/month., • Flexible remote work: up to 2 days per week according to company policy, plus access to on‑site amenities., • Supportive culture that values initiative, responsibility, and teamwork.
