Job Description: Fire Stopper Location: Exeter, Devon Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent Pay Rate: £22.50 per hour | £26.00 per hour (see enhanced rate conditions below) About the Role We are seeking an experienced and qualified Fire Stopper to join our team based in Exeter on a temporary to permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled passive fire protection specialist to secure a long-term position with a growing company. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of passive fire protection systems across a range of commercial and residential projects in and around the Exeter area. Key Responsibilities • Installation of fire stopping systems including intumescent products, fire collars, pipe seals, and cavity barriers, • Sealing of service penetrations through fire-rated walls, floors, and ceilings, • Compartmentation surveys and remediation works, • Ensuring all works are carried out in line with current fire safety regulations, manufacturer specifications, and British Standards, • Completing accurate documentation, inspection records, and certificates upon completion of works, • Liaising with site managers, clients, and other trades on site, • Reporting deficiencies and non-compliant installations to the relevant supervisor, • Maintaining a safe and clean working environment at all timesRequired Qualifications & Certifications Candidates must hold the following qualifications: • FIRAS Accreditation or IFC SDI 05 Certification (or be working toward under a recognised scheme), • ASFP (Association for Specialist Fire Protection) training or equivalent passive fire protection qualification, • NVQ Level 2 or above in Passive Fire Protection or a relevant construction discipline, • CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) Blue Skilled Worker card as a minimum, • Fire Stopping Competency Card (Passive Fire Protection installer level), • First Aid at Work certificate (desirable but not essential), • Asbestos Awareness Certificate (Category A) desirableRequirements, • Full UK driving licence (manual) essential, • Must be aged 25 or over (insurance requirement for company vehicle use), • Ability to travel to our Exeter headquarters daily, • Proven, demonstrable experience in passive fire protection installation, • Strong understanding of Building Regulations Part B, BS 9999, and relevant fire safety legislation, • Ability to work independently and manage own workload on site, • Good communication skills and a professional, can-do attitude, • Ability to work at height and in confined spaces as requiredPay Rates Standard Rate: £22.50 per hour Applicable to all candidates who meet the essential requirements above. Key Responsibilities: Technical Leadership & Design Ownership: • Own/manage the technical baseline and requirements for assigned packages; act as Responsible Engineer and technical focal point from need identification through handover., • Check and review key deliverables: calculations, drawings, specifications, BoMs, method statements, T&IPs, installation details and as-built records., • Lead design optioneering and LFE (lessons learned), ensuring solutions are buildable, maintainable and operable., • Provide formal checking/verification and sign-off per project quality plans; act as Checker where authorised. Planning, Control & Reporting: • Build and own the design work plan (scope, assumptions, estimates, resources), align with schedule, and track/report progress., • Manage change control, configuration, and auditable records; maintain risk/issue/action registers., • Provide clear status reporting to the Design Manager/Project Manager and drive recovery actions where needed. Quality, Governance & Assurance: • Ensure compliance with the Business Management System and Technical Manuals, applicable codes/standards and site rules., • Organise and lead package-level Design Reviews, HAZIDs, constructability and ALARP reviews; close actions as required., • Deliver right-first-time outputs (coordinated, clash-checked, specification-compliant). Safety, CDM & Risk: • Discharge Designer duties under CDM; lead elimination/reduction of risk through design and document residual risks., • Own safety assumptions, interlocks and protection logic (e.g., cranes/machinery), ensuring compliance with LOLER/PUWER principles Stakeholder & Interface Leadership: • Lead coordination with EC&I, Civils/Structural, Construction, Commissioning, Operations, Safety, Security and Supply Chain., • Direct supplier engineering: manage technical queries, submittals, factory tests, concessions and design integration; review and accept vendor drawings/data.
