Forklift Truck Operator Chemical Processing Company Job Overview We are seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Forklift Truck Operator to join our chemical processing operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe movement, storage, loading, and handling of hazardous chemical products and raw materials across the site. This role requires strict adherence to COSHH regulations, Health & Safety procedures, and environmental compliance standards. Previous experience working within a chemical manufacturing, hazardous goods, or industrial processing environment is essential. Key Responsibilities • Safely operate Counterbalance Trucks within a busy chemical processing facility., • Transport hazardous chemicals, raw materials, finished goods, IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers), drums, and containers across production and warehouse areas., • Load and unload deliveries, tankers, pallets, chemical drums, and bulk containers in accordance with site procedures., • Ensure all chemical products are correctly labelled, segregated, and stored in designated hazardous storage areas., • Follow COSHH regulations and company Safe Systems of Work when handling hazardous substances., • Conduct pre-use equipment inspections and daily FLT safety checks, reporting defects immediately., • Support production teams with the movement of materials between blending, processing, filling, and dispatch departments., • Maintain accurate stock movement records using warehouse management systems and paperwork., • Ensure spill containment procedures are followed and respond appropriately to chemical spill incidents., • Work in line with environmental and waste disposal regulations when handling chemical residues or damaged stock., • Assist with bulk material handling, including transferring chemicals in IBCs, drums, and containers safely and efficiently., • Stack and store materials safely while considering chemical compatibility and segregation requirements., • Wear and maintain required PPE at all times, including respirators, chemical suits, gloves, and eye protection where necessary., • Participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, emergency drills, and ongoing Health & Safety training., • Maintain high housekeeping standards across warehouse and production areas., • Support goods-in/goods-out operations and ensure all dispatches meet transport and hazardous goods requirements., • Communicate effectively with warehouse, production, quality, and logistics teams to ensure smooth operations., • Follow all site security, GMP, and compliance procedures within a regulated chemical environment. Essential Requirements • Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck Licence (RTITB, ITSSAR, or equivalent)., • Previous experience operating FLTs within a chemical processing, hazardous goods, manufacturing, or industrial environment., • Strong understanding of COSHH regulations and hazardous chemical handling procedures., • Experience moving IBCs, chemical drums, containers, and hazardous materials safely., • Good understanding of workplace Health & Safety legislation., • Ability to work safely in high-risk industrial environments., • Experience completing FLT inspections and reporting maintenance issues., • Good attention to detail and ability to follow strict procedures., • Physically fit and comfortable working in warehouse and production environments. Desirable • Counterbalance Licence., • ADR awareness or hazardous goods handling experience., • Experience within chemical blending, processing, or manufacturing facilities., • Spill response or emergency response training., • Knowledge of GMP or ISO standards. Working Environment • Fast-paced chemical manufacturing and warehouse facility., • Exposure to hazardous chemicals and industrial processes., • PPE required at all times., • Shift work and overtime may be required depending on production demands.
