POSITION AVAILABLE: EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT OVERVIEW: For more than 60 years, Legal Services of Long Island has been providing free, high-quality legal counsel in civil matters when basic human needs are at stake including: eviction and foreclosure prevention, income maintenance, disability, elder law, healthcare, consumer fraud and more. As the only provider of comprehensive civil legal services on Long Island, our services support thousands of poor and low-income families and individuals who cannot afford an atorney. With the gap separating those who can and cannot afford legal representation widening each day, we work to ensure that everyone has equal access to justice, regardless of their ability to pay. Legal Services of Long Island has a staff of over one hundred people situated in three offices across Long Island. OFFICE LOCATION: Nassau County (Hempstead Office) Legal Services of Long Island is seeking an Executive Assistant to work directly with the Deputy Executive Director (DED). DUTIES: Serve as the primary administrative and executive support to the Deputy Executive Director, exercising a high degree of discretion, judgment, and confidentiality. Manage the Deputy Executive Director’s calendar, including prioritizing meetings, coordinating internal and external schedules, and anticipating time-sensitive needs. Coordinate and prepare materials for meetings, including agendas, briefing documents, presentations, and meeting minutes. Act as a liaison between the Deputy Executive Director and internal departments, board members, funders, government partners, and external stakeholders. Draft, edit, and proofread correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other written materials for internal and external audiences. Support External Relations functions by assisting with grant reporting, funding applications, and document preparation related to fundraising, government affairs, and communications. Track deadlines, follow up on action items, and support the progress of projects and initiatives led by the Deputy Executive Director. Manage records, files, and information systems in accordance with organizational policies and confidentiality requirements. Provide general administrative and project support as assigned. START DATE: Immediate. SALARY: $75,000-$85,000 BENEFITS: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Long Term Disability (100% of the premium covered by employer), and 403b with defined contribution. REQUIRED SKILLS • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered., • Commitment to Legal Services of Long Island’s mission and to advancing access to justice., • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressively responsible administrative or executive support experience, preferably supporting senior leadership., • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism., • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft and edit professional correspondence and reports., • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and competing demands., • Proven ability to work independently, anticipate needs, and exercise sound judgment., • High attention to detail and accuracy., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with document management or CRM systems is a plus., • Experience in a nonprofit, legal services, government, or public-interest environment strongly preferred.
