American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care for a travel nursing job in Bakersfield, California. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 11/17/2025, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Work in an 8-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within an acute care setting, • Average patient census is 2 with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2, • Common cases include respiratory failure, dehydration, seizures, suicide attempts, overdoses, poisoning, ventilator management, and diabetic ketoacidosis, • Night shifts with 12-hour shifts and every other weekend required, • Float to general pediatrics and burn unit for non-burn pediatric care, with voluntary floating to NICU, • Travelers are first to float as needed, • Census-dependent on-call standby possible, • Required to work 2 out of 3 major holidays, • Charting is done in Cerner EMR, • Spacelab telemetry monitors and Medfusion pumps are used, • Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7, • PICU-specific orientation includes 2 PICU shifts, 1 peds shift, and 1 burn unit shift for peds, • Primary responsibilities include management of critically ill pediatric patients requiring advanced monitoring and interventions, • Frequent titration and management of insulin, sedative agents, heparin, electrolyte replacement, and occasional vasoactive drips, • Work under the support of in-house pediatric hospitalist intensivists 24/7, • Navy blue scrubs required, • No IV team available; nurses must perform all related tasks, • Mandatory pass/fail sterile technique testing for catheter and line management may be required, • Returning employees must not have worked at any CommonSpirit or affiliated facility in the past 12 months as direct employees, • Two professional references required, including one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years, • Copy of driver’s license must be submitted for consideration\n \n Requirements\n, • Active CA RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted, • BLS and PALS certifications required and must be current at consideration, • Minimum of 2 years recent PICU experience required; 3 years total RN experience required, • Proficiency in reading telemetry strips is required, • Experience with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, and pediatric critical care equipment required, • Cerner EMR experience preferred, • No nurse aides routinely on unit; must be comfortable with independent practice, • First-time travelers will not be considered\n Benefits\n, • High Pay and Bonuses, • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options, • 401(k) Plan, • Weekly Payroll Deposit, • Free Online CEUs, • Generous Housing Allowance, • Travel and Licensure Reimbursements, • Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
