American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Telemetry Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Bakersfield, California. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: Telemetry, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 01/20/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, days, • Work in a 32-bed private room telemetry unit within an acute care setting, • Patient population includes acute and chronic medical, post-surgical (bariatric, total joints), urology, GYN, podiatry, general surgery, stroke, and oncology cases, • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 for telemetry and 1:5 for MedSurg patients; ratios remain 1:4 for mixed teams, • RNs must be able to read and interpret all cardiac rhythms using GE monitors, • Shifts are 12 hours, day shift (7:00am-7:30pm), with 4 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule, • Travelers are the first to float and may be floated to nearby MS Tele units, ICU for Tele patients, and ER for holds, • Cerner EMR is used, with experience preferred but not required, • On standby for low census with a 30-minute response time when called in, • No call requirement; must attend shift huddles at 7:00am and 7:00pm, • Orientation includes 1-2 shifts with a preceptor, • Duties include medication teaching, intentional hourly rounding, and bedside shift reporting, • Strict policy on attendance and punctuality, • Navy blue scrubs are required; undershirts must be navy, white, or black, and jackets must be navy, • Team structure includes CNAs based on census, 24/7 house supervisor, nurse manager, charge nurse, and break nurse support, • No titration of drips; common set-rate infusions include Cardizem, Amiodarone, and Heparin, • Must cover at least one major and one minor holiday during assignment, • Must not have been employed by the facility or its affiliates within the past year in a direct role\n \n Requirements\n, • Active CA RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted, • Minimum of 2 years’ recent RN experience in a telemetry or similar acute care setting, • Current ACLS, BLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications are required, • Ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythms is mandatory, • Previous Cerner EMR experience preferred, • Must be comfortable caring for post-surgical, stroke, and oncology patients, • Copy of driver’s license required for consideration, • Two professional references required: one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last three years\n Benefits\n, • High Pay and Bonuses, • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options, • 401(k) Plan, • Weekly Payroll Deposit, • Free Online CEUs, • Generous Housing Allowance, • Travel and Licensure Reimbursements, • Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
