Location: Brooklyn, NY Job Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time | Monday–Friday Reports To: COO A well-established, mission-driven healthcare organization dedicated to serving New York City communities is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its growing Finance team. This organization provides comprehensive healthcare and behavioral health services and offers a collaborative environment where your expertise will directly support its vision and long-term success. Reporting directly to the COO, the Senior Accountant is responsible for managing accounting functions, overseeing grants and government contracts, ensuring compliance, and preparing accurate financial reports. This role is ideal for someone with a strong accounting background, attention to detail, and experience in nonprofit, healthcare, or government-funded environments. Accounting & Financial Reporting * Prepare monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and closing activities * Manage general ledger accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and overhead allocations * Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements * Maintain and update the fixed asset schedule and financial documentation * Support HR and payroll accounting functions as needed Grants & Contracts Management * Manage accounting for government grants, contracts, and restricted funds * Prepare related journal entries and ensure compliance with funding requirements * Monitor outstanding receivables from funding sources to optimize cash flow * Provide financial reporting and variance analysis for grants and contracts Cash Flow & Treasury Management * Manage cash flow planning and ensure funds are available for operations * Prepare and reconcile cash receipts, deposits, and bank transactions * Maintain cash flow statements and provide reports for leadership review Audit & Compliance * Support external audits by preparing schedules, reports, and required documentation * Manage the audit PBC (Prepared by Client) list and coordinate auditor meetings * Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and organizational policies Operations & Procurement * Oversee corporate credit card administration, reconciliations, and controls * Manage petty cash logs, perform periodic counts, and prepare reconciliations * Perform quarterly inventory counts and reconcile with the general ledger * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred) * Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience (nonprofit, healthcare, or government-funded background highly preferred) * Strong knowledge of GAAP, grants, and government contract management * Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software applications * Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements, audits, and budgets * Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail * Effective communicator who can work collaboratively across departments * Direct hire opportunity with long-term stability and growth * Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package plus pension * Work with a mission-driven organization that makes a real impact * Collaborative team environment with supportive leadership * Gain hands-on experience managing grants, contracts, audits, and cash flow
