Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Assist Cooks, Bakers, and Chefs with preparation, cooking, baking, cooling, and storing of food., • Support meal packing and labeling operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with agency guidelines., • Help instruct and supervise volunteers in food handling, kitchen procedures, and pack-out projects., • Monitor food labeling, ensuring all items are marked and rotated according to DOH and agency standards., • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in all food preparation areas, in accordance with DOH food safety standards., • Support kitchen inventory, stock rotation, and assist with refrigerator and walk-in cooler organization., • Report any malfunctioning kitchen equipment to management and assist Porters with basic maintenance and cleaning tasks. You are energetic, dependable, and passionate about food. You work well under pressure and have a natural ability to support and lead volunteers. You are also detail-oriented and committed to maintaining a safe, efficient kitchen. Qualifications and Requirements • Minimum 2 years of experience in a high-volume kitchen (cooking, baking, or food handling), • Knowledge of basic culinary methods and kitchen equipment, • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, • Basic math skills (for measurements, inventory, etc.), • NYC Food Handler Certification (required), • Culinary school training or formal certification (preferred), • Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team, • Must be comfortable working in varying kitchen temperatures, including freezers and ovens, • May be exposed to outdoor conditions when transferring food between kitchen and other areas, • Must be able to tolerate loud environments and work while standing for several hours
