Job Description LGBTQ+ Health & Community Engagement Specialist Organization: In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV) Location: Albany, NY Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site Reports To: Director of LGBT Health & Human Services About Us In Our Own Voices, Inc. Our mission is to promote the physical, mental, spiritual, political, cultural, and economic well-being of our communities through advocacy, direct services, and community engagement. Position Overview The LGBTQ+ Health & Community Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in advancing IOOV’s commitment to health equity and community wellness. This is a dynamic position that blends direct client support, youth development, program coordination, event planning, and data tracking. The Specialist will lead signature IOOV initiatives such as BIPOC Pride, the LGBTQ+ Student Roundtable, and the biennial Unity Through Diversity (UTD) National LGBTQ+ POC Health Conference, while also ensuring LGBTQ+ individuals—especially youth and BIPOC communities—have access to safe, affirming, and culturally responsive services. Key Responsibilities Direct Services & Program Support * Provide brief counseling, peer support, referrals, and advocacy to LGBTQ+ individuals seeking health and wellness services. * Lead LGBTQ+ youth programming and drop-in center activities, creating an affirming and inclusive environment. Community Engagement & Event Leadership * Coordinate major IOOV events, including BIPOC Pride, LGBTQ+ Student Roundtable, and Unity Through Diversity Conference. * Organize planning meetings, recruit speakers, performers, and volunteers. * Conduct community outreach (in-person and digital) to expand program visibility and participation, with a focus on underserved areas. Program Evaluation & Data Tracking * Assist in designing surveys, needs assessments, and evaluation tools. * Accurately enter program data into funder and internal databases (e.g., AIRS) with timely monthly reporting. * Analyze program outcomes to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Administration & Compliance * Prepare and submit accurate program reports in alignment with funder and IOOV requirements. * Maintain strict confidentiality and ethical management of client records. Qualifications Required * At least 2 years of experience in human services, health education, or community outreach. * Experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly BIPOC and youth populations. * Strong skills in event coordination, group facilitation, and community engagement. * Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities. * Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed. * Valid NYS driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. Preferred * Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field (or equivalent lived/professional experience). * Experience with program evaluation, data entry systems, or survey development. * Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
