Job Description Therapist - Counseling Center - 60% Full-Time (21 hours per week) Summary: The Trauma Therapist position is 60% of a full-time position (21 hours per week) and is a hybrid position with 11 hours onsite and 10 hours remote. Onsite hours include 4 hours every Saturday and one shift from 12:00 to 8:00 during the week. This is an excellent position for clinicians in need of licensing hours and who wish to become experts in several evidence-based treatments for survivors of all ages of interpersonal violence. The Safe Horizon Counseling Center (SHCC) is a New York State-licensed outpatient mental health clinic that specializes, exclusively, in the trauma-focused treatment of child and adult survivors of interpersonal violence and other forms of abuse. SHCC also functions as the mental health “hub” of Safe Horizon, the largest crime victim’s assistance agency in the country. Our main clinic is located at 41 Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, and we operate two satellites that are co-located at other Safe Horizon programs. Nearly half of SHCC’s clients are referred by one of Safe Horizon’s vast arrays of programs. The Trauma Therapist will receive paid training and supervision in a variety of evidence-based treatments for trauma survivors, and the client hours meet New York State’s experience requirements for LCSW licensure. POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor, the Behavioral Health Specialist will provide community-based support for clients who met the eligibility criteria of high-risk and high needs and require a support team to meet with them where they are at regardless of their location in NYC. The Behavioral Health Specialist is an integral part of the Clinical Services Department with Queens Supervised Release, which strives to support clients in improving behavioral health, promotes recovery and rehabilitation, and provides the highest quality care and support in a responsive and effective manner to high-risk and high needs clients who can be served in the community by creating new opportunities for success. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES • Screen and assess clients for the treatment of co-occurring substance use and MH disorders through application of appropriate tools and methods combined with participation in interdisciplinary team consultations., • Provide individualized intervention for problematic behaviors using techniques such as CBT therapy, crisis intervention, and de-escalation, to prevent and/or manage crisis., • Persistent engagement and continued observation to help assess client's improvements and/or ongoing needs or behavior., • Assist in developing and implementing treatment plans to address behavioral issues., • Advocate and liaise for clients within the criminal legal and/or shelter system and support them throughout the treatment process., • Communicates with client, client caregivers, teachers, and/or families (if applicable).
