Job DescriptionJob Title: Civil Engineer Job Description This role offers the opportunity to lead and support land development, residential, and site civil design projects from initial concept through construction. The Civil Engineer prepares comprehensive design plans, performs stormwater management analysis, and ensures full compliance with New York State and New York City regulations and permitting requirements. The position involves close collaboration with internal teams, contractors, architects, and regulatory agencies to deliver high-quality, constructible civil engineering solutions. Responsibilities • Lead and support land development, residential, and site civil design projects from concept through construction., • Prepare detailed design plans, including site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, stormwater management systems, and erosion and sediment control measures., • Perform stormwater management analysis and design, including hydrologic and hydraulic modeling in compliance with NYSDEC and NYCDEP standards., • Develop erosion and sedimentation control plans and prepare complete permit packages for submission to regulatory agencies., • Coordinate with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary approvals and ensure adherence to applicable codes and standards., • Produce detailed engineering drawings and construction documents using AutoCAD and Civil 3D., • Conduct site visits and field assessments to gather data, verify design assumptions, and support construction activities., • Collaborate closely with contractors, architects, and project stakeholders to resolve design issues and support project delivery., • Assist in preparing engineering reports, technical analyses, specifications, and cost estimates for land development and site civil projects., • Ensure all designs comply with New York State and New York City regulations, codes, and permitting requirements throughout the project lifecycle. Essential Skills • At least 2 years of experience working on land development and site civil design projects., • Demonstrated experience with land development design, including stormwater management, grading, and drainage design., • Hands-on experience in erosion and sedimentation control design and permitting., • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D for producing detailed engineering drawings and construction documents., • Experience delivering projects in New York State and New York City, including familiarity with local regulations and approval processes., • Strong understanding of stormwater systems, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and drainage design., • Solid foundation in civil engineering principles related to site civil design, land development, and regulatory approvals., • Ability to interpret and apply NYSDEC and NYCDEP standards and other relevant codes to project designs., • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with contractors, architects, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) credential or progress toward EIT is beneficial., • Experience preparing engineering reports, technical analyses, specifications, and cost estimates., • Background with erosion control practices and stormwater best management practices in New York State and New York City., • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary civil engineering design and consulting environment., • Interest in professional growth within a firm that offers a diverse portfolio of projects and a strong backlog of work. Work Environment The role follows a standard schedule of 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM with a one-hour lunch break. The firm operates as a multi-disciplinary civil engineering design and consulting practice with over 45 years of combined experience in engineering, land development, and regulatory approvals. The office has about 30 team members, almost all of whom are engineers, creating a highly technical and collaborative environment. The organization runs lean, takes on complex projects, and maintains a very fast-paced atmosphere, providing continuous exposure to challenging work and significant opportunities for growth. Work is primarily office-based, using technologies such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D to develop detailed design and construction documents. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Holtsville, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $53.00 - $68.00/hr.
