About Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technicians have expertise in the most conventional and unconventional explosives to ensure the secure disposal of explosive weaponry. They are on call to respond to any type of ordnance, and they receive specialized training to handle chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. They investigate and demolish natural and man-made underwater obstructions, prepare coastal regions for amphibious landings, and warn about potential threats at home and abroad. Whether getting the job done in a bomb suit or by utilizing state-of-the-art robotic technology, Navy EODs are trained to use the most advanced tools of their kind in a role that's vital to the safety of servicemembers and civilians. Qualifications and Requirements Males and females are eligible to apply to become enlisted Navy EOD Technicians. No college degree is required, but a high degree of difficulty and satisfaction is standard. Training is tough and ongoing. You can apply for the Navy Challenge contract for EOD Technicians at any time during your first enlistment. Job Description Under minimum supervision working from blueprints, sketches written and/or verbal instructions, sets up and performs the most diversified and complex progressive machining, fitting and assembly operations. Determines proper tooling and sequence of operations, and skillfully uses all machinists’ hand tools and machine shop measuring equipment in order to produce work to specifications. Must be able to make complicated set-ups and operate available machine tools; determine operational sequences, proper jigs, fixtures and design of tool to be used. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Must be able to make complicated set-ups and operate available machine tools; determine operational sequences, proper jigs, fixtures and design of tools to be used., • Must be able to skillfully use all machinist’s hand tools and measuring instruments., • Must be familiar with the machining of most materials., • Must be able to use advanced shop math, including trigonometry., • Moves parts to and from the work area., • Maintains good housekeeping in the work area., • Meets all safety requirements in the machine shop and follows all company policies., • Ability to operate standard and specialized equipment to produce prototype and/or production parts, • Ability to perform standard shop computations, using technical math, geometry and trigonometry., • Proficient use of set up and operation of CNC machining center., • Proficient use of tool and surface grinders, • Requires a High school diploma or equivalent education, • Requires the completion of an apprenticeship program or similar on the job experience of approximately four years or at least five years experience as a machinist., • Moderate physical activity.
