Job DescriptionDescription: Mental Health Association of Nassau County (MHANC) is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to improving mental health in our community through advocacy, education, program development, and the delivery of direct services. Our organization is looking for a motivated individual with a calling to help adults with mental illness by becoming a Peer Specialist. Peer Specialist utilizes personal experience and respite training to provide peer support and companionship for guests. The Peer Specialists manifest, in their presence and actions, a vision of hope, resilience, opportunity, and wellness. Goals include lessening/alleviating emotional distress and crises, lessening use of emergency rooms and hospitals, and increasing personal growth with positive life choices. Essential Duties & Responsibilities • Provide supportive companionship for guests throughout their visit to house (interview, intake, arrival, stay and departure)., • Share personal recovery to encourage hope, wellness, personal growth and recovery., • Model and support the belief that individuals can and will do better., • Utilize effective engagement skills to connect, use mutually shared insights to encourage problem solving and utilization of tools that will assist in lessening or alleviating current and future crisis., • Non-judgmental active listening designed to meet individual “where they are at”., • Help maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment. Some cleaning may be involved., • Provide telephone support to peers in the community though our Consumer Phone Link Program as needed., • Facilitate self-help, support groups., • Keep accurate and timely records., • Work cooperatively with respite team., • Maintains client confidentiality.Requirements: Education & Experience: • Lived, experience and willingness to utilize personal experience to assist others in recovery., • High School Diploma, • Six months to one year current or recent employment., • Six months to one year part time or full time experience in delivery of direct services to mental health consumer/survivors (volunteer or paid), preferred., • Three months first hand experience in self-help or peer directed services and/or peer support groups, preferred., • Good oral and written communication skills., • Completion of Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) training preferred., • Basic knowledge of community support services/resources/mental health service delivery system, preferred., • Knowledge of consumer/survivor/ex-patient movement and peer run or peer driven services that incorporate recovery based philosophies., • Ability to relate to both other survivors of mental illness and psychiatric diagnosis and mental health professionals., • Honesty, respect for diversity, high personal standards, professional demeanor, language and behaviors reflecting such values., • Commitment to the possibility of recovery for all individuals diagnosed with psychiatric illness., • Emotional resilience to cope with strong emotions on an on-going basis., • Valid and “clean” New York State Driver’s License, preferred.

Responsibilities: ● Verification and pre-authorization of major medical insurances, workman's comp, and no-fault cases. ● Obtains proper insurance information, insurance cards, and identification. ● Update folders and patients charts with detailed and accurate information including In and Out of Network coverage. ● Practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance with Office policies and HIPAA requirements. ● Coordinates with authorization and billing departments to ensure accuracy and efficiency with all related processes. ● Can identify all appointments and procedures for assigned departments that require authorization by monitoring the schedules, system reports, and dashboards. ● Can identify the referral and authorization requirements of the patients' insurance plans by using various on-line resources according to department workflows. ● Can verify insurance eligibility and benefits, and updates the patient's insurance information as necessary. ● Can complete referrals and prior authorizations in a timely manner according to department guidelines and workflows. ● Can ensure that appropriate and accurate information is entered into the patient account. ● Can respond timely and collaborates effectively with the Reimbursement Department teams to limit denials and ensure proper reimbursement. ● Can collaborate with team members to meet department deadlines and benchmarks. Requirements: ● 2+ years experience with medical verifications and authorizations ● Knowledge of insurance carrier guidelines, clinical policies, and state guidelines pertaining to referrals and prior authorization. ● Workman's comp, no-fault, and major medical insurance experience required. ● Demonstrate complete system knowledge, ability to run reports document and manage referrals and authorizations, move correspondence, resolve eligibility and authorization hold, and other system tasks within the user's security access. ● Demonstrate the ability to request, prepare, and recognize the documentation required to support the medical necessity for the service being authorized. ● Demonstrate the ability to use the electronic tools and systems available to organize and process the daily work. ● Possess excellent interpersonal skills, outgoing and personable. ● Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. ● Excellent written and verbal communication skills. ● Methodical and detail-oriented ● Possess pleasant and personable telephone demeanor. ● Well-spoken and written English. Our Prior Authorization Specialist is responsible for accurately identifying retinal injectable patients. This includes counseling and registering patients, confirming patient eligibility, and obtaining pre-authorizations for upcoming retinal injection appointments. You’ll play a vital role in the patients’ experience with OCLI. OUR EXPECTATIONS OF YOU • Review appointments to confirm that correct injections are booked in appropriate timeframe., • Follow up on status of patient copay assistance., • Confirm the results of Benefits Investigation (BI) and entering pertinent information into patient chart., • Confirming status of patient eligibility and approval for copayment assistance., • Maintain proper inventory., • Assist with tracking patients who have been approved and have copayment assistance cards and applying funds to charges within PM system., • Other duties may be assigned as needed.
