Job Description Attending Periodontist – Dental Residency Program Union Community Health Center (UNION), operating continuously as a health care provider in the Bronx since 1909, is today one of the largest Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) in NYS. UNION’s mission is to provide comprehensive, culturally competent primary and preventive health care services to improve the health status and decrease health disparities of the medically underserved populations in the Bronx, providing services to all regardless of age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion or the ability to pay. UNION continues to impact more Bronx residents each year with five clinic locations and two Mobile Units (medical and dental). Two additional locations are scheduled to open in 2024 and early 2025. UNION serves nearly 40,000 underserved residents of the Bronx providing over 200,000 patient care visits annually. UNION utilizes an impressive model of a holistic and integrated approach to patient care that unifies primary care, behavioral health, and dental care providers creating one team, designing and delivering care for each patient. Additionally, UNION provides specialty services, needed and otherwise difficult for Medicaid patients to access, including physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, audiology, cardiology, behavioral health and psychiatric services among many others. Rate $120-$130 per hour based on experience Position Overview We are seeking an accomplished Periodontist to join our dental residency program as an Attending Periodontist. This is an outstanding opportunity to contribute to resident education through clinical supervision, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration while advancing clinical excellence in a dynamic academic healthcare environment. Key Responsibilities Clinical Supervision & Education • Provide clinical supervision and guidance to residents in Pediatric Dentistry and General Practice Residency (GPR) programs, • Provide clinical supervision to residents across multiple surgical disciplines as appropriate, • Be available to mentor residents in clinical training, Quality Improvement, and research initiatives, • Deliver didactic dental lectures to Pediatric, General Practice, Orthodontic, Oral Surgery, and Dental Anesthesia residents, aligned with your areas of expertise Patient Care & Safety • Prioritize patient-centered care through clear and effective communication with patients and staff, • Promote a safe, respectful, and collaborative healthcare environment to support high- quality patient care, • Perform and supervise dental extractions with clinical excellence Professional Development • Maintain all required training and certifications, • Engage in continuous professional development and evidence-based practice Qualifications Required: • Graduate of an accredited U.S. periodontal residency program, • Board Certified or Board Eligible, with a plan to achieve certification within three (3) years, • Current New York State dental license, • Active DEA registration, • Proficiency in the use of dental lasers (diode, erbium, and CO2 lasers), • Comfortable performing and supervising dental extractions, • Strong communication skills to support effective interactions with patients, residents, and staff, • Demonstrated commitment to mentorship and clinical education in an academic or hospital-based setting Preferred: • Experience with Quality Improvement (QI) and research initiatives, • Prior experience in academic dentistry or residency training programs, • Track record of interdisciplinary collaboration What We Offer • Professional Growth: Opportunity to mentor and shape the next generation of dental professionals, • Collaborative Environment: Work with skilled professionals across multiple disciplines, • Academic Impact: Contribute to curriculum development and clinical education across diverse residency programs Position Details • Schedule: Full-time or part-time opportunities available.
