Job Description JOB TITLE: Security Manager JOB POSTED:March 26, 2026 DEPARTMENT: Security Services REPORTED TO:Associate Director, Security Services SCHEDULE: FT, Exempt, Tue-Sat, 8 am-4pm EST (subject to change) COMPENSATION: $70,000 annual POSITION OVERVIEW: Under the supervision of the Associate Director and the Director of Security Services, the Manager will support in implementing departmental strategy, maintaining accountability, and ensuring security operations contribute positively to the student experience and campus environment. The Security Manager will supervise Security Supervisors, Shift Commanders, and Security Officers, enforces departmental policies, manages incident reporting, and ensures professional standards of conduct and performance are maintained across all shifts. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develop, implement, and monitor security policies and procedures., • Oversee daily operations of the security department, including payroll and overtime management, staff scheduling, supervision, and performance management across all shifts., • Investigate security breaches, incidents, or other irregularities and recommend corrective actions., • Conduct site inspections of security officers and shift commanders at all SVA properties., • Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency response agencies when necessary., • Manage access control systems, CCTV, alarm systems, and other security technologies., • Maintain departmental documentation and operational records., • Provide training and guidance to security personnel to ensure consistent performance and awareness., • Train and supervise officers/shift commanders on all security-related policies and procedures implemented by the college., • Identify training needs for supervisors and shift commanders, • Provide coaching, guidance, and corrective direction to officers and supervisors when necessary., • Ensure supervisors hold officers accountable for attendance, professionalism, and performance., • Prepare reports on security incidents, trends, and departmental performance., • Receive and investigate complaints involving security personnel or campus-related incidents., • Directly supervise security supervisors and evaluate their performance., • Address disciplinary issues in coordination with Human Resources., • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements regarding safety and security., • Monitor and approve officers' vacation and personal time records; ensure adequate coverage or replacements for vacationing and sick employees, including drafting weekly schedules., • Coordinate with other internal departments including Student Affairs, Facilities, and HR., • Support campus events by developing appropriate security coverage plans., • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education, • Four (4) years of professional experience may be substituted for degree requirements., • NYS Security License, • A degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or a related field, is preferred., • Previous supervisory experience managing security personnel, including hiring, training and scheduling, specifically within an academic, higher education setting.., • Experience with security systems and technologies (e.g., CCTV, access control, alarms)., • Proficiency in electronic locking hardware, enterprise access control systems, and digital recording systems., • Knowledge of Security management in higher education settings., • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, including Clery Act compliance, Title IX, and NY State Security Guard Training requirements, • Knowledge of FDNY Fire and Life Safety., • Knowledge of security protocols, risk management, and emergency preparedness., • Skills for incident report documentation and liaison work with law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services., • Skill in verbal, written and interpersonal communications., • Skill in planning and organizing., • Skill in problem-solving, attention to detail and multitasking., • Skill in learning new computer technology., • Skill with public speaking and preparing presentation materials, • Ability to develop, implement, and lead responses to emergency situations, including evacuations, fire safety, and crisis management, • Ability in meeting time-sensitive deadlines with minimal supervision is required., • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations (students, faculty, staff, and visitors) and maintain high ethical standards., • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information., • Ability to work independently, proactively, and collaboratively within a fast-paced and agile team environment., • Schedule: Subject to change. Full time schedule (35 hrs per week), Tuesday - Saturday, 8am-4pm EST. Exempt position. The position is essential on-site, non-remote., • Location: 209 East 23rd Street, NY New York 10010, • Required to work additional hours outside of the regular work schedule; and be available to work evening and weekend hours; and respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours., • Ability to engage in strenuous activity, including running, lifting, and carrying equipment/packages exceeding 25 pounds., • Acute observation skills for surveillance monitoring, • Ability to work indoors and outdoors., • Must be available to respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours., • Work may involve exposure to challenging or potentially hazardous situations., • Ability in walking, standing for long periods, and climbing stairs.
