Job DescriptionSalary: $45/hour SUMMARY The Southern Queens Parks Association is looking for an upbeat individual to join the team as an Adult Literacy Instructor for the Workforce program. This program operates under the SQPA umbrella through use of its facilities, programming and thought leaders located at Roy Wilkins Recreation Center. The GED Adult Literacy Instructor is responsible for preparing adult learners for the High School Equivalency (GED) exam through instruction in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies. The instructor assesses student needs, develops engaging lesson plans, and creates a supportive classroom environment that builds skills, confidence, and persistence. In addition to teaching, the Instructor monitors student progress, maintains accurate records, and collaborates with program staff to ensure learners receive the academic and wraparound support needed to achieve their educational and career goals. ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES The instructor will design and deliver engaging lessons, assess learners' progress, and provide individualized support. This role plays a key part in fostering digital inclusion by helping participants build proficiency in computer operations, online communication, and productivity tools, contributing to their overall personal and professional growth. Primary Job Duties: * • Instruction & Curriculum Development, • Deliver engaging lessons in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies to prepare students for the GED exam., • Develop lesson plans and adapt curriculum to meet the diverse learning needs, levels, and goals of adult learners., • Integrate literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills into instruction., • Student Assessment & Support, • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and motivating classroom culture that supports adult learners., • Create individualized learning plans to track progress and address areas for improvement., • Provide ongoing feedback, encouragement, and academic support to promote persistence and achievement., • Classroom Environment, • Conduct pre-assessments to determine students initial computer skills and learning objectives., • Maintain detailed records of attendance, participation, and performance., • Use varied teaching strategies and technology to engage students and accommodate different learning styles., • Program Compliance & Recordkeeping, • Maintain accurate attendance, progress reports, and other required documentation in compliance with agency and funder guidelines., • Monitor student outcomes and contribute to program evaluation and reporting., • Collaboration & Professional Development, • Work with program staff, counselors, and case managers to connect students with wraparound services such as career readiness and college transition., • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development to strengthen instructional practices., • Adhere to all DOH, & DYCD Standards, • Integrate educational software, digital learning tools, and online resources to enhance instruction., • Introduce students to online learning platforms and support their navigation of digital content., • Assist with community outreach efforts to recruit new learners., • Collaborate with other instructors and staff to enhance program offerings and share best practices., • Perform other projects assigned at the discretion of the workforce supervisor. Pay Rate:Part-time in-person role that will be paid $45 per hour.
