Job Description Location: Precision Care Surgery Center Department: Nursing Services Reports To: Director of Nursing Position Summary The Operating Room (OR) Nurse Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and operational oversight of the Operating Room and Central Sterile/Sterile Processing departments. This role oversees all clinical, operational, financial, regulatory, and personnel functions related to surgical services and ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. The OR Nurse Manager provides direct leadership to all Operating Room and Central Sterile staff and serves as a key liaison between nursing, physicians, anesthesia providers, and administration. In the absence of the Director of Nursing, this individual has authority to make operational decisions for the center. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership & Staff Management • Provide leadership and direction to all Operating Room and Central Sterile/Sterile Processing staff., • Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, and develop department employees., • Conduct annual performance evaluations and oversee staff competency assessments, continuing education, and certifications., • Manage employee relations, disciplinary actions, and terminations in partnership with Human Resources and the Director of Nursing., • Foster a positive, collaborative, and patient-centered work environment. Staffing & Scheduling • Develop and manage staffing models, master schedules, daily assignments, and on-call coverage., • Approve payroll, timekeeping, and paid time off requests., • Coordinate lunches and breaks based on surgical schedules and case acuity., • Minimize overtime and agency staffing while maintaining safe staffing levels. Surgical Services Operations • Oversee daily operations of the Operating Room and Central Sterile departments., • Manage OR case scheduling and support block time utilization and analysis., • Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, scheduling staff, and administration to optimize case flow and on-time starts., • Maintain surgeon preference cards and support onboarding of new surgeons and procedures., • Provide clinical support and circulate in the operating room as needed. Regulatory Compliance & Quality Management • Ensure continuous readiness for CMS, State Licensure, AAAHC, and/or Joint Commission surveys., • Maintain departmental policies and procedures in compliance with AORN, AAMI, manufacturer instructions for use (IFUs), and accreditation standards., • Monitor quality indicators, including:, • On-time starts, • Turnover times, • Surgical site infection rates, • Case cancellations, • Patient satisfaction scores, • Participate in QAPI initiatives and present findings to leadership committees., • Oversee occurrence reporting, root cause analysis, peer review, and management of sentinel events. Infection Prevention & Sterile Processing • Oversee sterilization practices and compliance with instrument reprocessing standards., • Monitor sterilization records, biological indicators, and environmental cleaning practices., • Ensure compliance with all sterile processing regulations and manufacturer guidelines. Financial & Resource Management • Monitor departmental labor and supply utilization to support cost-effective operations., • Collaborate on capital equipment planning and surgical service line development., • Partner with Materials Management to oversee:, • Inventory management, • Product standardization and value analysis, • Implant and consignment management, • Supply cost reduction initiatives, • Manage vendor relationships, credentialing, and equipment service contracts. Strategic Leadership • Participate in leadership meetings and strategic planning initiatives., • Support organizational goals and continuous process improvement efforts., • Collaborate with other facilities, as needed, to develop systems and solve operational challenges., • Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Required • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing., • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state., • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications., • Minimum of five (5) years of Operating Room nursing experience., • Minimum of five (5) years of nursing leadership or management experience., • Orthopedic surgical experience required., • Working knowledge of sterile processing and instrument reprocessing standards (AORN/AAMI)., • Demonstrated leadership abilities and strong ethical standards., • Strong written and verbal communication skills., • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook., • Ability to work flexible hours based on surgical schedules and staffing needs. Preferred • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing., • CNOR certification., • Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) experience., • Previous healthcare management experience. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and move throughout the facility for extended periods., • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds., • Ability to respond quickly to patient care situations and emergencies., • Visual and auditory acuity necessary for patient assessments and use of medical equipment., • Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment. Work Environment • Climate-controlled healthcare setting with exposure to medical equipment and moving mechanical parts., • Potential exposure to communicable diseases, radiation, and cleaning chemicals., • Category I exposure risk requiring adherence to infection prevention and universal precaution standards., • Moderate noise levels and frequent interruptions typical of a surgical environment.
