ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The duties and responsibilities of the Residence Program Specialist will include but are not limited to the following: • Provides care and assists with personal development and independence of the people we support., • Ensures that all measures for safety and well-being are maintained at highest level., • Provides training for the people we support in activities of daily living and in development of self-help and social skills., • Maintains a personalized, homelike atmosphere in the residential facility., • Attends weekly staff meetings as well as any other assigned meetings and in-service trainings., • Prepares concise written reports including Incident Reports, Progress Notes and other reports as assigned., • Responds to crisis situations and medical emergencies, including accidents by taking quick and decisive action., • Ensures actions are conducted in a manner that prevents abuse, and reports observations of co-workers who may be abusive in accordance with established procedures., • Administers appropriate first aid based on visible symptoms and medical history of the people we support in accordance with established guidelines and accepted first aid practices., • Summons police, fire, ambulance or other emergency personnel if situation warrants it., • If an emergency has caused a person we support to exhibit behavior that is threatening or dangerous, may have to utilize strategies for crisis intervention in accordance with OPWDD approved Behavior Management guidelines., • Provides transportation for the people we support in agency vehicles to and from work, shopping, programs, restaurants, movies, doctor’s appointments, etc., • Assists with meal planning and preparation as well as with purchasing of food and supplies., • Demonstrates an understanding of and implements behavioral programs., • Participates fully as a member of interdisciplinary plan., • Maintains an ongoing informal exchange of information. Fitness Program, • Legal Assistance through ARAG, • Optum Financial Service through ConnectYourCare ▪ Conducts direct street outreach to individuals in need of addictions medication services. ▪ Establishes a respectful, trusting relationship with program participants. ▪ Assists participants to identify and build on their strengths and resiliencies. ▪ Assists participants in identifying basic needs. ▪ Provides referrals for medication assisted treatment of substance use disorders. ▪ Provides guidance and resources to help participants access healthcare, behavioral healthcare, public assistance, housing, nutritional assistance and health insurance. ▪ Provide training to program participants and distributes medication for opioid overdose reversal. ▪ Distributes harm reduction supplies, including: wound care kits, safer sex kits, sharps disposal and medication disposal kits, substance supply test kits for fentanyl and other synthetic drugs. ▪ Escorts participants to clinic for assessment and same day medication initiation. ▪ Assists patients with medication access. ▪ Facilitates warm hand-offs with network service providers. ▪ Acts as advocate on behalf of program participants with professional staff and network service providers. ▪ Participates in team meetings and service planning conferences. ▪ Documents delivery of services in case record. ▪ Participates in in-service training according to program requirements. Qualifications for Position ▪ New York State Certified Recovery Peer Advocate or Provisional CRPA preferred. ▪ CARC preferred. ▪ Lived experience in recovery from substance use disorder. ▪ 2 years of direct care work experience with individuals at risk for, or with a substance use disorder. Skills and Knowledge Required ▪ Demonstrates effective communication skills; recognizes and uses person-centered language. ▪ Recognizes that there are multiple pathways to recovery/wellness. ▪ Practices a strengths-based approach to recovery/wellness. ▪ Proficient with Microsoft Office applications ▪ Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred ▪ Ability to engage active substance users and their families Amount of travel and any other special conditions or requirements Frequent local travel required Odyssey House is an equal opportunity employer maintaining a non-discriminatory policy on hiring of its personnel.
