American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care for a travel nursing job in Bakersfield, California. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 12/15/2025, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Work in an 8-bed Pediatric ICU within an acute care setting, • Average census of 2 patients with 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratios, • Night shifts (12 hours), with every other weekend required, • Travelers are first to float to general pediatrics and the burn unit for pediatric patients, and may float to NICU on a voluntary basis, • Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, dehydration, seizures, suicide attempts, overdoses, poisoning, ventilator-dependent patients, and diabetic ketoacidosis, • Utilizes Cerner EMR (experience preferred), • Spacelab telemetry monitors in use; nurses must read own strips, • Care for pediatric ventilators, use of medfusion pumps, and respiratory support (vent, CPAP, RAM cannula, BiPAP, HFNC), • Pediatric hospitalist intensivist and RT support in-house 24/7, • No nurse aides; charge nurse role is rarely assigned, • Scrub color required: Navy blue, • On standby required if census is low and scheduled, • Responsible for managing complex pediatric ICU patients and multiple infusions, including titratable drips such as insulin, sedatives, heparin, and occasionally vasopressors, • Participate in floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts in PICU, 1 shift in pediatrics, 1 shift in the burn unit (for peds), • Travelers are required to float as the first option within the float pool, • Holiday coverage expected for 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignment, • Must pass required testing on sterile technique and potentially Relias Dysrhythmia exam, as applicable, • Returning candidates may not have been employed directly by CommonSpirit systems within the past year, • No IV team is available; bedside nurses perform all IV starts\n \n Requirements\n, • Active CA RN license required at the time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted), • Minimum 2 years of recent PICU RN experience required, • Current certifications in BLS and PALS required, • At least 3 years of overall RN experience, • Proficiency in reading telemetry strips and experience with Spacelab monitors strongly preferred, • Experience with pediatric ventilator management and medfusion pumps required, • Copy of driver’s license required for consideration, • Must provide 2 professional references: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, and one from a peer or supervisor from the last 3 years, • Not accepting first-time travelers for this position\n Benefits\n, • High Pay and Bonuses, • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options, • 401(k) Plan, • Weekly Payroll Deposit, • Free Online CEUs, • Generous Housing Allowance, • Travel and Licensure Reimbursements, • Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
