Job Description Job Title: Technician Job Description This role focuses on manufacturing and assembling specialty fiber optic subcomponents and products in a high-tech, team-oriented environment. You will work hands-on with small optical and electronic components, following detailed process documents, work instructions, and schematics to ensure accurate, high-quality production. The position involves repetitive yet precise manipulation of fibers and laser components, including bonding, splicing, and cutting, while actively participating in continuous improvement and cross-functional training. Responsibilities • Take accountability for production output and efficiency within your assigned area., • Follow and promote safe work practices while adhering to established safety procedures., • Contribute to a harmonious and collaborative manufacturing environment., • Maintain strict accuracy and adherence to process documents, work instructions, and product specifications., • Cross-train in multiple processes and departments to support continuous manufacturing coverage., • Assist and support assembly operators in manufacturing and assembling specialty fiber optic subcomponents and products., • Test and screen optical components and products to ensure they meet quality standards., • Manipulate fibers and manufacture laser components through repetitive but precise tasks., • Perform bonding, splicing, and cutting of fibers and wires to build and develop products., • Document procedures and processes for developing new products or transitioning existing products., • Participate in daily production activities alongside other team members., • Support production cells to ensure maximum efficiency and throughput., • Maintain regular communication with the team leader and/or supervisor regarding progress, issues, and improvements., • Help develop individual team members by encouraging them to solve day-to-day operational issues., • Assist in the implementation and delivery of employee training programs., • Learn higher-level technical manufacturing jobs, processes, and related operations to expand your capabilities., • Suggest and participate in continuous improvement projects related to products and processes., • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality., • Assist in coordinating efforts with support personnel to resolve equipment and process problems quickly, minimizing downtime and maximizing efficiency and yield. Essential Skills • Strong hand dexterity and fine motor skills for working with small components and fibers., • Experience working with standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, or schematics., • Experience in a production or manufacturing environment, preferably in high-tech manufacturing., • Ability to perform bonding, splicing, and cutting of fibers and wires with precision., • Familiarity with electronics and fiber optics, including handling optical components., • Ability to read and follow blueprints, process documents, and technical specifications., • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in repetitive tasks., • Capability to learn new technical manufacturing processes and roles., • Effective communication skills for working closely with team members, leaders, and support personnel., • High level of reliability and accountability for production output and quality. Additional Skills & Qualifications • High school diploma or GED is preferred., • Approximately 3 years of manufacturing experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment is preferred., • Experience in an R&D or advanced manufacturing setting., • Prior experience supporting assembly operators in electronics or fiber optic production., • Experience documenting procedures and process changes., • Experience in continuous improvement initiatives or process optimization. Work Environment The role is based in a high-tech, R&D-focused manufacturing environment that is strongly team oriented. Technicians work closely together, and the workflow is interdependent, meaning each person’s work directly affects the progress of others. You will handle small optical and electronic components, including specialty fiber optics and laser subassemblies, using bonding, splicing, cutting, and testing equipment. The environment emphasizes adherence to safety procedures, process documentation, and quality standards. You will be trained across all areas of production and are not closely micromanaged, allowing for autonomy while maintaining high performance expectations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Somerset, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
