This is a pivotal role at the heart of the organisation. It forms part of the MBD senior leadership team. You will work alongside the CEO to develop strategies for the business and be involved in making key business decisions.
The Development and Operations Director will be responsible for four key areas:
  1. You will oversee all the operational aspects and the people in the organisation to ensure strategic outcomes are achieved and that the team runs efficiently.
  2. You will be responsible for managing the finances of the organisation.
  3. You will be responsible for managing our Arts Council England NPO funding relationship and contract. You will also manage project based funding relationships as needed.
  4. You will play a lead role in developing new work, funding applications and earned income opportunities for the organisation.

Key Responsabilities:
  • Prepare and submit grant applications, and research income generation opportunities.
  • Maintain positive relationships with funders, clients, and commissioners, and manage all required reporting, including quarterly reports for Arts Council England and other funders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the organization's performance against strategic objectives, including audience data collection and analysis.
  • Support MBD Directors and other members of the senior management team in developing and delivering strategic business and activity plans.
  • Manage organizational finances, including budgeting, cash flow forecasting, invoice payments, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Oversee HR, personnel management, and line management of relevant staff.
  • Collaborate with the MBD team in line with cooperative values, and handle other duties to support MBD's mission.

Demonstrable experience of managing projects from start to finish.
Significant experience of financial and budget management.
Experience of people management / HR.
Experience of monitoring and evaluation, including data collection and analysis.
Experience of partnership building, fundraising, and generation of new work opportunities.
Excellent people skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
A positive attitude, sense of humour, self discipline and motivation.
A commitment to treating everyone fairly and with respect, and valuing the importance of different people's experiences, backgrounds and opinions.
Desirable additional skills:
Experience of working in the arts and culture sector
An interest in creative uses for technology
An understanding and interest in the UK immersive sector
Experience using online accounting tools
