We are looking for an experienced HGV Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, servicing, diagnosing, and repairing a fleet of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), ensuring all vehicles remain safe, compliant, and operational at all times. The successful candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, experience working within a commercial vehicle workshop environment, and the ability to carry out fault diagnosis and repairs across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Key Responsibilities Vehicle Maintenance & Repairs • Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance on HGVs., • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults., • Repair or replace defective components including engines, gearboxes, braking systems, and transmissions., • Ensure all repair work is completed to a high standard and within required timescales. Inspections & Diagnostics • Conduct regular vehicle inspections to identify potential faults or safety concerns., • Use diagnostic equipment and tools to accurately assess vehicle issues., • Interpret fault codes and technical data to determine appropriate repair solutions., • Support drivers and operational teams by troubleshooting reported vehicle defects. Compliance & Safety • Ensure all fleet vehicles meet current HGV legislation, safety standards, and regulatory requirements., • Follow company health & safety procedures at all times., • Keep up to date with industry regulations, compliance standards, and best practices., • Support the implementation of safe working practices within the workshop. Documentation & Reporting • Maintain accurate service and repair records, including parts used, labour hours, and maintenance history., • Produce clear documentation relating to inspections, repairs, and fleet compliance activities., • Monitor and report vehicle downtime, maintenance costs, and recurring faults where required. Customer & Team Support • Communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers, and colleagues regarding vehicle status and repair updates., • Work collaboratively with technicians and workshop teams to resolve complex technical issues., • Deliver a professional and reliable service while maintaining high standards of workmanship. Requirements • Proven experience within HGV maintenance, repair, or commercial vehicle workshops., • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar transport maintenance role., • NVQ Level 3 in HGV Service & Maintenance preferred., • IRTEC qualification advantageous., • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills., • Good organisational skills and ability to work independently., • Financial and operational awareness., • Full Category C+E driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points. We have an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to join our Maintenance team at our Beckton Sewage Treatment Works (STW). As the successful candidate, your role will be to ensure that all equipment at our waste treatment works is safe to use and running efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. To assist in keeping such a site running. What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical Technician Investigate plant failures and perform repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and performing repairs during incidents. You will be expected to provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required. Examples of equipment that you will be working on include motors, gearboxes, screw /chain conveyors & centrifuges, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable, chemical handling, and dosing equipment. Completing statutory checks as required. Always working safely and complying with all Health and Safety guidance and procedures.Base Location: Beckton STW Working Pattern: 38 Hours Monday- Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm. Plus standby & overtime opportunity, increasing earnings by a potential £8,000 - £10,000. Upon completion of essential company training. Equipment: All PPE and tools are provided. What you should bring to the role To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering qualification in Mechanical Engineering is crucial. The work will require physical fitness, as you will work in confined spaces with the successful completion of the appropriate training. Key Responsibilities • HIU/CIU Inspections and reactive maintenance for loss of heat or cooling within the required timeframe of our Residential Supply Agreements., • To carry out repairs identified during servicing including removal/replacement of pumps, valves, and actuators plus bleeding systems., • Updating work orders in a timely manner and in accordance with company training via our asset management system., • Liaising with our service desk to ensure any on hold jobs are rebooked and closed out as soon as possible., • In charge of your own van stock and responsible to contact management when critical parts are required., • Working in a safe manner and in accordance with the company’s Health & Safety policy Proactively help and support others to achieve team objectives., • Heat meters works such as replacing battery, replacing meter itself or investigating why error codes are appearing on meters with the internal Metering Team., • Reporting of PPMs/ Reactive jobs completed, on hold or requiring further action from other teams on a bi weekly to management., • Ensure the company escalation process is understood and followed when further action is required to reinstate heat / cooling to a residential property, outside the remit of your job description i.e. plant room temperatures are low., • Deliver a first-class service to customers., • Effectively prioritise and perform tasks under pressure.
