Primary 1:1 Teaching Assistant (KS1 – SEND)\n\nLocation: Liverpool\nHours: Full time\nContract: Long Term Role\n\nAbout the Role\n\nWe are seeking a highly experienced and resilient Primary Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a KS1 pupil with an EHCP for ADHD and Autism. The pupil requires consistent, structured support to access learning and regulate emotions within the school environment.\n\nThis role is non-negotiable for candidates with proven experience supporting pupils who present challenging and physically demanding behaviours. When dysregulated or overstimulated, the pupil may display physically challenging behaviours, and the successful candidate must be confident, calm, and skilled in responding safely and appropriately.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nProvide dedicated 1:1 support to a KS1 pupil in line with their EHCP.\n\nImplement behaviour regulation and de-escalation strategies to support emotional regulation.\n\nSupport the pupil in accessing the KS1 curriculum, adapting tasks to meet individual needs.\n\nRecognise early signs of dysregulation and apply appropriate interventions.\n\nMaintain the safety of the pupil and others at all times, following behaviour and safeguarding policies.\n\nWork closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals.\n\nAccurately record behaviour incidents, progress, and interventions.\n\nProvide support during transitions, unstructured times, and sensory-challenging situations.\n\nEssential (Non-Negotiable) Requirements\n\nProven experience working with pupils with ADHD and Autism.\n\nExtensive experience managing challenging and physically demanding behaviours in a school or SEND setting.\n\nConfidence in using positive behaviour support, de-escalation, and regulation strategies.\n\nA calm, patient, and resilient approach, even in high-pressure situations.\n\nStrong understanding of safeguarding and behaviour management policies.\n\nDesirable (but not essential)\n\nTraining in Team Teach, MAPA, or other behaviour management approaches.\n\nExperience working with pupils with EHCPs in KS1.\n\nRelevant Teaching Assistant or SEND qualifications.\n\nWe Offer\n\nA supportive school environment with clear behaviour systems in place.\n\nOngoing guidance from SEN leadership and external professionals.\n\nA rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a child’s educational journey.\n\nSafeguarding\n\nThis role is subject to an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service and full safeguarding checks.
