What your day could look like You’ll be right at the heart of the classroom, supporting children to feel safe, settled, and ready to learn. Expect a mix of structure, spontaneity, and those brilliant “that’s a breakthrough” moments. Supporting children with SEMH needs, helping them regulate emotions and feel secure Using de-escalation and calming strategies when things feel overwhelming Delivering phonics interventions and supporting early reading skills Sitting side by side with pupils during reading time, building confidence one page at a time Helping the teacher run continuous provision, from sensory play to structured activities Supporting children with a range of autism needs, adapting your approach to suit each individual Creating a classroom environment that feels safe, predictable, and encouraging It’s hands-on, it’s rewarding, and yes, it can be challenging, but you’ll never be doing it alone. What we’re looking for Experience working with children, ideally in EYFS or SEN settings Confidence supporting pupils with SEMH, autism, or complex needs A calm, patient approach, especially during tricky moments Someone who can build trust, quickly and genuinely A team player who’s happy to roll up their sleeves and get involved Experience required We’re looking for someone who’s already had some hands-on experience, this could be through: Working in a school, nursery, or SEN setting Supporting children with additional needs, including autism or SEMH Experience with phonics, early reading, or EYFS provision Roles in care, youth work, or support work where you’ve helped children or young people regulate and engage Not ticked every box?
