Principal ILS & Obsolescence Engineer Here at KDC, we are seeking a key member to join our ILS & Obsolescence tea. In this role you will deliver various ILS & Obsolescence work packages across the various defence programmes. You will provide to multi discipline engineering teams; knowledge, oversight and check at all stages of the product-life cycle. You will be experienced in delivering and communicating ILS within the UK Defence industry. You may be required to lead other individuals in the completion of ILS & Obsolescence deliverables. You will be required to provide guidance & coaching to other Engineering Staff as part of continuous improvement of our ILS & Obsolescence capability. Responsibilities: • Carry out Proactive & Reactive Obsolescence activities across multiple Engineering Systems;, • Deliver Obsolescence activities through contract and Systems life, including identifying Resolution Options IAW BS EN-IEC-62402-2019, • Identify Spares holdings of items and be cognisant of MoD Spares Policy and NATO Codification activities;, • Provide ARM Reporting including Reliability Block Diagrams to determine system redundancies and critical items, • Facilitate & refine Customers Maintenance Policy, including interpreting UMMS Maintenance Schedules and Operator and Maintainer Manuals, and attending Reliability Cantered Maintenance (RCM) meetings where mandated, • Support Bid activities by challenging Customer Requirements Documentation and write Basis of Estimates for Deliverables and Level of Effort, • Ensure project compliance to ILS Requirements & Demonstrate the value of ILS engineering to all stakeholders and drive the importance of proactive ILS management techniques, • To Understand the Engineering Lifecycle, and the difference between contract life, and system life., • Produce ILS Management Plans to align with business ILS Strategy and compliance with DEF STAN 00-600 Facilitate other ILS Activities including (but not limited to): • Carry out analysis to assess the impact of change to system support solution, • Supporting Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), • Level Of Repair Analysis (LORA), • Life Cycle Costing Analysis (LCCA), • Packaging, Handling Storage and Transportation (PHS&T), • Training, • Disposal issues, detailing hazardous materials/substances or security aspects that impact disposal Collaborate and Liaise with: • Integrated Project Teams – To influence system design, and ensure it is adequately supported & to contribute to the evaluation of technical options, make timely decisions and provide Subject Matter Expertise:, • Demonstrate the value of ILS engineering to all stakeholders and drive the importance of proactive ILS management techniques, • Maintain obsolescence registers, perform obsolescence sweeps and produce ILS reports, • Functional Safety teams – To ensure Safety and ILS are integrated, and maintenance tasks are reviewed for Safety impact, • Configuration teams – To ensure change due to support is monitored, and recorded, • Original Equipment Manufacturers and Suppliers - To acquire support data for equipment, and monitor Obsolescence, • Customers - To influence policy, process and planning, and mitigate ILS & Obsolescence related risks, • Supply Chain, Information Assurance and Mission Assurance and the Production Engineering teams -Facilitation of Asset Management in accordance with the requirements, policies and processes General Operational Duties • Provide Subject Matter Expertise at Business Management department meetings as required, • Ensure compliance with all applicable Business Management & Command Media Processes and procedures, • Support the ILS & Obsolescence Lead in developing and growing a professional and engaged team, • Understand and apply all policies, processes and procedures around compliance and governance, • Manage own time, and communicate blockers, and impacts to estimated tasking in a timely manner. Person Specification • Proven experience in delivering and communicating ILS within the UK Defence industry, with an Engineering Degree or equivalent relevant experience in Support Engineering with a HNC Level 4 Qualification or equivalent., • Knowledge and application of relevant international standards, • Knowledge and application of relevant of UK Defence Standards, • Knowledge and experience of ILS application within UK Defence Maritime Surface and Sub-Surface platforms, • Knowledge and experience of ILS application relating to Control Systems, hardware and Software Competency/Skill requirements • Ability to lead a team of Engineers to deliver work packages, • Ability to work independently on own initiative, as well as within a collaborative team environment,, • Ability to work under pressure in a complex and rapidly changing environment, • Adept at problem-solving, able to develop solutions to a variety of problems, • Good attention to detail, • Organised, adept at workload management and prioritising appropriately to meet deadlines, • Flexible and responsive to changing priorities, • Proactive team worker, equally self-motivated and able to work autonomously, • Good interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with all audiences & stakeholders, • Proficient user of MS office & related suites, • Competent in PowerPoint (and face-to-face presentation delivery – if required), • Fluent in written and spoken English, • Strong customer focus, • Engaging ‘can do’ attitude Other requirements • Travel requirements: Occasional UK travel may be required to attend team/customer meetings and training activities, • Clearance requirements: You must be able to gain and maintain the relevant UK Government security clearance in line with the job role (SC UK Eyes only).
