It might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about a tax role but at Bristol Myers Squibb, everything connects back to our purpose: transforming patients’ lives through science. And the team that keeps our tax operations running with precision and integrity? They're part of that story too. We're looking for a Senior Tax Manager to join our European Tax Centre of Excellence (COE) in Chester - a role where your technical skills meet real business influence and where the work you do every day genuinely matters. This is a tax role with real breadth. And real accountability for the outcomes across your markets. Here’s what makes this different from a standard in‑house tax position: you won't be a cog in a machine, processing the same returns year after year. You'll lead a portfolio of European markets and direct a team of tax professionals - working closely with local finance teams and external advisers to high‑quality processes. You'll be the expert your finance colleagues come to when they need clarity, the professional who challenges external advisers on both direct tax and VAT matters, the senior lead who manages tax audits through to resolution, and the person who translates complex legislation into practical action to guide our stakeholders. You’ll run the full direct tax cycle for your own markets - leading corporate income tax return preparation with local external advisers, applying genuine technical challenge to their work, managing tax authority audits and enquiries through to resolution, drawing on your working knowledge of VAT where indirect tax questions arise, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. You’ll gain hands‑on US GAAP experience - preparing and submitting US tax reporting including quarterly current and deferred tax provisions using TaxStream technology. This isn't something most in‑house European tax roles offer, and it's a genuine differentiator for your CV. You’ll work across the full breadth of tax governance - staying on top of evolving regulatory requirements across your markets, including the evolving world of PillarTwo. You’ll be a genuine internal consultant - advising finance and business stakeholders on tax matters, explaining complex technical requirements in language they can act on, and building the kind of trusted relationships that make you indispensable. You’ll coach and assist in developing a team of tax professionals - setting objectives, coaching technical development, and building a team that delivers to a consistently high standard across your markets. You’ll shape how tax is done, not just do it - contributing to the COE's strategy around standardisation, automation, and continuous improvement. If you’re curious about tax technology and smarter ways of working, this team is actively investing in that space. You’ll stay ahead of legislative change - monitoring developments across your markets, analysing their impact, and proactively communicating what matters to the people who need to know. Let’s talk about what this role opens up for you - concretely. Breadth that most tax roles simply don’t offer. European direct tax, US GAAP reporting, transfer pricing exposure, Pillar Two - all under one role, in one team. Whether you’re looking to deepen your specialism or broaden your horizons, this role does both. Access to leading external advisers. You won’t be working in isolation. You’ll collaborate with top‑tier advisory firms, learn from their expertise, and develop the skills to challenge and manage them effectively - experience that builds your professional credibility significantly. Real stakeholder visibility. You’ll regularly engage with senior finance leaders and business partners globally. That kind of cross‑functional, international exposure builds commercial acumen and communication skills that go far beyond technical tax knowledge. Flexible, hybrid working from our modern office in Chester. A. With the 50% hybrid‑working model, you’ll get to collaborate and build supportive working relationships with the large tax team, as well as others in the ECC, whilst creating a healthy work‑life balance. B. The BMS mission as your backdrop. When you’re filing that return, managing that audit, or navigating a piece of new legislation — you’re doing it in support of a company that is genuinely working to help patients with serious diseases. That context changes how the work feels. You’ll thrive in this role if… • You’re a qualified accountant and/or chartered tax adviser (CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with solid experience in tax accounting, tax provisioning, and statutory audit support., • You have hands‑on tax audit experience, having led or managed enquiries with tax authorities, and a good working knowledge of VAT., • You have experience coaching and developing people, with a track record of managing, coaching and growing tax professionals., • You’ve managed external advisers and you know how to review compliance deliverables with the right level of technical rigour., • You communicate confidently - able to break down complex tax matters for finance colleagues and non‑tax stakeholders alike, without losing accuracy., • You’re genuinely interested in tax technology, process improvement, and automation and you see them as opportunities, not threats., • You’re organised, ownership‑driven, and comfortable managing multiple markets and deadlines simultaneously., • You’re fluent in English - additional European languages are a bonus, but not a requirement. Don't tick every single box? We’d still love to hear from you. If you believe you could succeed in this role, that matters to us and we mean it. #LI‑Hybrid We hire for skills and capabilities, not just credentials – if this role excites you, but doesn’t perfectly match your resume, we encourage you anyway.
