The post holder will be expected to participate in respiratory outpatient activities, ward referrals and inpatient cover. There will also be the opportunity to develop a ambulatory pleural service. They will be expected to attend the weekly Lung Cancer MDT meeting and Chest Radiology meeting. There will also be time allocated to a weekly bronchoscopy list as well as time dedicated to teaching and training of junior staff.It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to quality improvement and delivery of inpatient, outpatient and emergency work; there will be SPA time is allocated to achieve this. They will provide a strong visible presence across the organisation, be a role model of good leadership and effective communication at individual, team, directorate and whole organisation level.Main duties of the jobThe post will be based at Croydon University Hospital, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and Croydon Health Services and at other work locations including off site working may be agreed in your Job Plan where appropriate; proposed Job Plan is attached. There will be an average of 8 Programmed Activities of Direct Clinical Care, with the remainder being allocated for Supporting Professional and/or other Activities. Please note that job plans are subject to review by your Clinical Director and Clinical Business Unit (CBU) Lead.As a senior employee of the Trust you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust’s patients. As well as offering access to a range of core skills training and professional development.Detailed job description and main responsibilities*Please see the attached supporting document which contains more information about the role *Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteria- Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent- Inclusion in the specialist register for Respiratory and General Internal Medicine, or within 6 months of CCST at time of interview- Full registration with the GMC Appropriate higher medical qualification (i.e. MRCP or equivalent)Desirable criteria- Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)Training & ExperienceEssential criteria- Minimum two years’ experience in Respiratory medicine at SpR level or equivalent.- High standard of clinical skill and expertise in the specialty- Experience in the management of lung cancer- Experience in the management of sleep and ventilation- Able to contribute to the full range of skills required for the on-call rota for the specialty- Competence in diagnostic bronchoscopy and pleural ultrasoundDesirable criteria- Competence in EBUS- Experience in service development- Evidence of research in relevant specialtyManagement & LeadershipEssential criteria- Experience in day to day organisation of services in a busy teaching hospital- Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams- Has attended a recognised management training event or will have such training on completion of CCT/CCST- Ability to organise and manage work- Understanding of the principles of clinical governanceDesirable criteria- Experience in the development of clinical guidelines- Management course and/or qualificationAuditEssential criteria- Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit.
