Job DescriptionJob Title: Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician Job Description This role maintains plant equipment in reliable operating condition by performing preventive and corrective maintenance on production, packaging, and processing equipment. The Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical systems to support efficient product processing while consistently applying safe work practices and established maintenance procedures. Responsibilities • Perform planned preventive and unplanned corrective maintenance on production, packaging, and processing equipment to ensure optimal machine performance and minimize downtime., • Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns and conduct effective troubleshooting to restore equipment to service quickly and safely., • Inspect machines and equipment regularly to identify problems, replace defective parts, and make necessary adjustments to maintain continuous production operations., • Use hand and power tools to remove, install, replace, rebuild, repair, and test parts and components on plant and production equipment., • Troubleshoot and maintain a wide range of equipment including motor controls, variable frequency drives (VFDs), refrigeration systems, mixers, conveyors, sensors, printers, and packaging machinery., • Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, electrical schematics, service manuals, and work orders to perform maintenance and repair tasks accurately., • Complete maintenance work orders in a timely manner while maintaining high standards of quality and workmanship., • Communicate effectively with other departments, leadership, and team members to report issues, coordinate repairs, and minimize disruptions to production., • Accurately complete all required documentation, ensuring that work orders and maintenance records are clear, legible, and compliant with standard operating procedures., • Apply a continuous improvement mindset by identifying opportunities to enhance equipment reliability, maintenance processes, and overall efficiency., • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices and maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe work area to support product quality and food safety., • Adhere to required safe work practices including lockout/tagout procedures, use of required personal protective equipment in designated areas, safe chemical handling, and use of fall protection where needed., • Correctly handle chemicals and dry materials while observing appropriate safety precautions and hazard controls., • Operate stand-up and sit-down forklifts and other material handling equipment safely as needed to support maintenance activities.Essential Skills, • High school diploma or GED preferred., • Formal engineering or maintenance training desired., • Minimum 2 years of experience in a maintenance role within a manufacturing facility, preferably in the food and beverage industry., • Minimum 2 years of experience in one or more technical areas such as electrical, mechanical, PLC, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, computer-controlled equipment, or HVAC., • Minimum 2 years of experience in lubricating, cleaning, materials handling, motor control, relay control, process control, and packaging equipment maintenance., • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical industrial equipment, including motor controls and process machinery., • Ability to inspect equipment, recognize potential problems, and independently take corrective action to prevent component failures or equipment downtime., • Ability to evaluate, repair, and operate production equipment, including warehouse equipment, with proficiency in troubleshooting, changing, maintaining, and repairing components., • Welding skills and proficiency with hand and power tools for equipment repair and general maintenance functions., • Ability to accurately add, multiply, and divide in units of measure and to read and follow written directions., • Basic computer skills with accurate data entry capabilities for completing work orders and maintenance records., • Skilled operation of stand-up and sit-down forklifts., • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing throughout the shift., • Ability to meet vision requirements including close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color differentiation., • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Professional experience with ammonia refrigeration systems preferred., • Experience working with PLC troubleshooting and industrial automation systems., • Experience in an industrial or food processing environment with exposure to Good Manufacturing Practices., • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills across a variety of industrial equipment., • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and maintenance documentation., • Ability to use electric meters and other diagnostic tools to support maintenance and repair activities., • Comfort working in environments with noise, humidity, and temperature changes., • Experience handling chemicals and dry materials safely in an industrial setting., • Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset and willingness to suggest and support process improvements.Why Work Here? Work Environment This position operates on 2nd shift, typically from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with the expectation of flexibility for overtime, weekends, and holidays as production needs require. The role is based in a standard production environment with exposure to noise, humidity, and temperature changes, including potential work outdoors for certain maintenance tasks. Products manufactured in the facility may contain peanuts and tree nuts, and appropriate safety and hygiene practices are required. The position is physically demanding and involves frequent operation of machinery and material handling equipment, including forklifts, as well as repetitive grasping, use of hand and power tools, and use of electric meters and other diagnostic instruments. Technicians regularly sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, twist, kneel, crawl, reach overhead and horizontally, push, pull, and lift or carry up to 50 pounds, often for most of the shift. Proper personal protective equipment is required in designated areas, and strict adherence to lockout/tagout, safe chemical handling, and other safety procedures is expected to maintain a safe and compliant workplace. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Brunswick, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $40.00/hr.
