PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Assistant Community School Director supports the planning, implementation, and coordination of all community school and afterschool programming. They work closely with the Community School Director and the Afterschool Director to ensure alignment between school-day priorities, youth development goals, and extended learning activities. This role is responsible for operational efficiency, partner coordination, family engagement, compliance, and staff supervision. In the absence of the Community School Director or Afterschool Director, this position will serve as the point person for the school community, program staff, and agency partners. Program Operations & Compliance: * Support the daily operations of community school and afterschool programs, including implementation of enrichment, academic, recreational, and SEL components. * Ensure compliance with DOE, DYCD, DOHMH, and OCFS regulations and protocols. * Track and ensure timely submission of attendance, incident reports, and program documentation. * Support implementation of Saturday, holiday, and summer programming. * Ensure staff clearances, medical forms, training certificates, and documentation are current and compliant. * Assist with management of equipment, supplies, and procurement. Staff Supervision & Development: * Directly supervise Group Leaders, Instructors, and Tutors in coordination with the Afterschool Director. * Conduct classroom observations and provide coaching and feedback. * Lead or co-lead team meetings and professional development workshops. * Coordinate staff schedules, ensure appropriate coverage, and maintain timekeeping records. Program Development & Instructional Alignment: * Ensure programs reflect youth development best practices and support school-day learning goals. * Assist in the development, alignment, and evaluation of curricula across both community school and afterschool program areas. * Collaborate with education specialists and support enrichment partners. * Coordinate and supervise field trips, special events, and culminating projects. Family & Community Engagement: * Support parent engagement strategies including communication, workshops, and outreach. * Represent the program at school events, PTA/SLT meetings, and afterschool partner events as needed. * Promote access to support services, including referrals to mental health, housing, or youth employment resources. * Help plan and support family nights, talent shows, open houses, and other community-building events. Data & Continuous Improvement: * Maintain accurate records and logs of student attendance, behavior, and engagement. * Use program data and stakeholder input to inform program planning and continuous improvement. * Support the implementation of needs and asset assessments. * Contribute to regular performance reports and funder updates. QUALIFICATIONS: * High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Youth Development, or a related field preferred. * Minimum of three years of experience in youth development, community schools, or education. * At least one year of experience supervising staff or managing school-based programs. * Familiarity with NYC DOE systems, school operations, and community school models preferred. * Demonstrated ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and DYCD/DOE data platforms. * Fluency in other languages is a plus. WORKING CONDITIONS * The position is based in New York City and at times requires travel to multiple program sites. * Must be comfortable working in DOE school buildings and community-based locations. * Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events or training. * Must be able to navigate stairs and carry materials up to 25 pounds when needed. Requirements • Bachelor’s Degree Required; Master's degree in Education, Counseling, or related social services field preferred, • At least two-three years of experience in internship placement, student advising, and utilizing data-driven methods to increase student success in completion of internships. Who you are • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to complete tasks accurately and in a timely manner, • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook, • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of the program, including evening and some weekends, • Passion for and commitment to the mission of the Harlem Children’s Zone' What You’ll Do • Manage a caseload of up to 65-70+ college students, using the appreciative advising model, focusing on college transition/persistence/completion and career readiness (based on the appreciative advising model), • Assist students with class selection and registration, financial aid renewal and verification, academic appeals, and the college transfer/re-enrollment process, • Assist students with summer career opportunities/programs/internships, • Monitor progress toward educational goals and meet with students to review academic (financial) eligibility and satisfactory progress toward graduation by meeting with students periodically, • Collaborate with Career Services to ensure students are engaging and gaining career awareness and exposure, • Collaborate with the Social Services team to solve socio-emotional issues, • Provide support to HCZ and Promise Academy high school sites with college matching, financial aid, application process, and overall transition from high school to CSO, • Collect and record college and career data for 100% of caseload, including but not limited to transcripts, resumes, bills & schedules, financial aid: FAFSA, TAP, Pell, and others, graduate confirmation, etc., • Responsible for the creation and implementation of Appreciative Advising Action Plans for each student on caseload twice a year, • Maintain updated student case files and other records pertaining to students’ progress and success such as bursar bills, class schedules/calendars, degree audits, syllabi, etc., • Responsible for inputting daily and monthly case notes for assigned students, • Collect students’ grades and transcripts twice a year, • Maintain frequent and regular contact with students to monitor progress and to troubleshoot academic, financial, and socio-emotional issues, • Conduct college campus visits for students, any transfer students, and high-need students, • Conduct home visits to any students who are low contact or at risk of becoming MIA, • Establish and maintain relationships with campus liaisons through ongoing communication and campus visits, • Advocate on behalf of students to various colleges and university offices. Job Description POSITION SUMMARY CityParks Soccer teaches kids of all levels the basics of soccer in NYC parks through informal play and free instruction. Use of all equipment is provided. CPF is seeking to hire experienced college players, coaches or PE teachers to provide free soccer instruction to children in NYC parks this Spring, Summer and Fall. Spring and Fall classes will typically take place during afterschool hours or on weekends from 9am - 12pm. Summer classes will take place on weekdays 9:00am - 12:00pm. Instructors will be trained by CPF and will be seasonal employees of the CityParks Play Department. Our program sites are throughout NYC, however staff are usually assigned to work in their borough of residence. In 2024, CPF piloted an initiative with Nike to increase female participation and coaching opportunities in the program, including new sessions geared for girls ages 13-16. This initiative will continue to expand in 2025.
