Job DescriptionJob Title: CNC Lathe Machinist Job Description Set up and operate multiple 2-axis CNC lathe machines to manufacture precision fittings and components for the aerospace and defense industry, while independently performing first article inspections to ensure all parts meet tight tolerance and quality requirements. Responsibilities • Set up and operate multiple 2-axis CNC lathe machines with turning capability to produce aerospace and defense components., • Interpret and work from engineering blueprints to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances., • Perform supervised and unsupervised machine setups, including tooling selection, offsets, and workholding configuration., • Maintain and achieve tight tolerances of +/- 0.005" on a variety of materials, including titanium, stainless steel, and aluminum., • Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet specifications., • Conduct first article inspections on own parts, documenting results and making necessary adjustments to programs or setups., • Perform program edits at the machine, including minor modifications to G-code, to improve part quality and machining efficiency., • Work with Fanuc controls to operate CNC lathes and apply basic programming knowledge as required., • Collaborate with team members and leadership to resolve machining issues and support continuous improvement in the shop., • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in a high-volume CNC environment., • Support production across different shifts as needed to meet customer and delivery requirements.Essential Skills, • Experience setting up and operating CNC lathes, specifically 2-axis turning machines., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings for aerospace components., • Proficiency using precision measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, and height gauges., • Hands-on experience performing first article inspections and validating part conformance., • Working knowledge of G-code and the ability to perform program edits at the machine., • Experience with Fanuc controls on CNC equipment., • Capability to work with tight tolerances of +/- 0.005" on titanium, stainless steel, and aluminum., • Comfort working in a production machine shop environment with multiple CNC machines., • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during setups and production runs., • Openness to working different shifts as required.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Completion of a machining or CNC-related school program., • Aerospace machining experience is highly preferred., • Programming knowledge for CNC lathes is a plus., • Experience with Swiss machining is a plus, particularly on Star machines., • Familiarity with first article inspection documentation and processes., • Ability to support a growing shop where only a limited number of employees currently perform setups.Why Work Here? Work Environment Work in a newly acquired, modern machine shop with a large facility designed for growth. The shop houses approximately 52 CNC machines, primarily 2-axis turning lathes with some milling capability, and a team of around 55 employees, including a small group of dedicated setup machinists. Shifts typically include a first shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a second shift from 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with the expectation of being open to different shift assignments. The environment focuses on high-precision machining for aerospace and defense components, using advanced equipment and precision measuring tools in a clean, organized production setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Valencia, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
