Job Description Machine Shop Manager Position Summary: The Machine Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a precision CNC and manual machining facility serving the aerospace and defense sectors. This role ensures compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards while optimizing productivity and workflow. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in aerospace-grade machining, team leadership, lean manufacturing, and defense industry compliance. Key Responsibilities: • Lead and manage day-to-day operations of the machine shop, including CNC machining, turning, milling, and grinding., • Plan and coordinate production schedules to meet customer and program deadlines., • Supervise and develop a team of machinists, programmers, and setup technicians., • Ensure strict adherence to AS9100, ISO 9001, ITAR, and other applicable quality and regulatory standards., • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and 5S methodologies., • Monitor equipment maintenance, calibration, and tooling needs to prevent downtime., • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Program Management teams to resolve technical and production issues., • Control costs by managing labor, materials, and machine utilization efficiently., • Prepare and present reports on KPIs such as productivity, scrap rates, OEE, and on-time delivery. Education & Experience: • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience)., • 7+ years of experience in a precision machining environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role., • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, GD&T, and technical drawings., • Proficient with CAD/CAM software (e.g., GibbsCAM, Siemens NX)., • Understanding of CNC machine programming and troubleshooting (e.g., Makino, Okuma, Mazak, Fanuc)., • Proven leadership and team-building skills., • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities., • Excellent communication and organizational skills., • Certified Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt., • ERP/MRP experience (e.g., JobBOSS, Epicor, Oracle)., • Regularly exposed to a machine shop environment including noise, oil, and moving machinery., • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally., • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
