Job Description Senior Civil Estimator Location: Northern New Jersey Salary: $150,000 – $185,000 (based on experience) Our client, a well-established heavy civil contractor in Northern New Jersey, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Civil Estimator to join their growing team. This firm specializes in complex heavy highway construction, site work, and utility infrastructure projects, delivering high-quality results across municipal, state, and private-sector projects. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in civil estimating, strong technical knowledge of roadway and utility construction, and the ability to lead the full estimating process from bid review to submission. Their work includes: • Heavy Highway Construction: road building, reinforced concrete structures, grading, paving, drainage, and utility infrastructure, • Site Work: clearing, earthwork, mass excavation, utilities, concrete, hardscape, site improvements, and paving, • Utility Projects: water, storm, sewer, and underground services They are known for their strong project planning, reliable execution, and collaborative approach. Responsibilities • Lead the full estimating process for heavy highway, site work, and utility construction projects., • Interpret and analyze engineering drawings, specifications, and bid documents to prepare accurate and competitive estimates., • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, concrete, paving, drainage structures, and related disciplines., • Develop project cost structures including labor, equipment, material, subcontractor pricing, and indirect costs., • Evaluate project risks, constructability considerations, and schedule impacts., • Collaborate closely with project management, operations, and field teams to ensure accurate understanding of project scope and execution plans., • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor bids; build and maintain strong vendor/subcontractor relationships., • Prepare final bid proposals, supporting documentation, and cost presentations., • Participate in bid reviews, value engineering discussions, and project handoffs., • Stay current with regional market pricing, DOT standards, and industry best practices. Requirements • 10+ years of estimating experience with a heavy civil contractor., • Strong background in heavy highway, site development, and utility infrastructure is required., • Expert-level knowledge of earthwork, grading, drainage, concrete structures, and roadway construction., • Proficient in estimating software, digital takeoff platforms, and Microsoft Excel., • Ability to read and interpret detailed civil engineering plans and specifications., • Knowledge of NJDOT, municipal standards, and related permitting/regulatory requirements., • Strong negotiation, analytical, and communication skills., • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple bids at once., • Proven track record preparing winning bids for public and private projects.
