Job DescriptionConfidential Opportunity: Director of Electrical Engineering Overview A leading North American industrial organization is seeking a Director of Electrical Engineering to lead electrical design efforts across a large portfolio of complex energy and industrial facilities. This role oversees all electrical engineering activities supporting multi-site operations and capital projects, with responsibility for high-, medium-, and low-voltage infrastructure. The Director will guide design standards, lead a team of subject matter experts, and partner cross-functionally to support both ongoing operations and strategic growth initiatives. This is a high-impact leadership role with visibility across engineering, operations, and executive leadership. Scope of Role • Lead electrical engineering strategy and design execution across 30+ facilities in North America, • Oversee electrical systems including:, • High-voltage (approx. 26kV-230kV), • Medium-voltage (approx. 5kV-13.8kV), • Low-voltage distribution systems, • Drive design and integration of:, • Switchgear, transformers, generators, MCCs, motors, and protective relaying, • Arc flash and short-circuit studies, • Balance-of-plant and industrial process systems, • Support a broad range of industrial equipment tied to power generation and plant operationsThis role is based in a corporate engineering environment with strong collaboration across field operations, engineering teams, and project groups. ~30% travel required. Key Responsibilities Technical Leadership • Lead, prioritize, and assign work across the electrical engineering team and SMEs, • Provide design leadership for capital projects, plant upgrades, and expansions, • Oversee development and continuous improvement of electrical design standards and specifications, • Support plant operations with troubleshooting, upgrades, and performance improvements, • Manage external engineering consultants and ensure quality, cost-effective deliverables, • Lead front-end engineering/design (FEL) activities and feasibility studies, • Evaluate total cost of ownership (CapEx & OpEx) for new and retrofit solutionsOperational Excellence & Continuous Improvement, • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and implement sustainable corrective actions, • Drive lessons learned programs to improve future designs and standards, • Support initiatives to reduce downtime and improve productivity across sites, • Conduct technical risk assessments (arc flash, protective relaying, system reliability), • Lead FMEA and reliability initiatives for critical systems, • Support technical due diligence for global equipment sourcingLeadership & Team Development, • Build, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineering specialists, • Drive performance management, coaching, and career development, • Support resource planning, budgeting, and project prioritization, • Partner with cross-functional teams (operations, sourcing, PMO, field services, regional engineering), • Contribute technical input to strategic initiatives and potential growth opportunitiesQualifications Education • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline)Experience, • 15-20+ years of electrical engineering experience, • 5+ years of leadership/people management experience, • Background in one or more of the following environments:, • Power generation or energy facilities, • Large industrial or manufacturing environments, • Data centers or mission-critical infrastructure, • Engineering consulting / design firms, • Strong experience with:, • Medium- and high-voltage electrical systems, • Switchgear, MCCs, relays, transformers, • Full project lifecycle (design through commissioning/startup preferred), • Experience supporting operations, maintenance, or plant troubleshooting is a plus, • Exposure to global sourcing / vendor evaluation is a plusCore Skills, • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, • Ability to manage multiple complex projects with minimal oversight, • Effective communicator across technical and executive audiences, • Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teamsPreferred Certifications, • Professional Engineer (PE) license (highly preferred), • Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher) preferredAdditional Notes, • This is a high-visibility leadership role with a strong focus on long-term asset strategy, capital investment, and operational excellence, • Offers the opportunity to influence engineering standards and infrastructure across a large-scale, multi-site operation In accordance with New York salary transparency requirements, the anticipated annual base salary range for positions is: $200k-$250k annually.
