We are seeking a Waste Collection CDL Driver who will be working out of our Jersey City Depot (264 Broadway, Jersey City, NJ 07306) servicing NYC Routes and reporting to the Site Manager but is also subject to supervision by Route Supervisors and Dispatchers. This is a full time, Union, non-exempt, hourly position with an overnight schedule starting anywhere between 7pm and 9pm but may vary depending on business needs. Shifts may vary from 10 to 12 hours per evening or until the route is complete. This Depot will be servicing our NYC routes. Working alongside a Helper, our Waste Collection CDL Driver’s main responsibility is to safely operate a rear-loading truck, for the pick-up service of bags or containers filled with waste or recyclable material. Drivers transport the material to a disposal, transfer or recycle facility, and may make one or more trips throughout the shift. Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.: • The driver is responsible for safely operating the truck in compliance with IWS’s safety standards as well as OSHA and DOT regulations, and local traffic laws., • Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle using utilizing standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report); notes all issues on DVIR form for corrective review/repair., • Ensuring that the container and its content are always secure. This includes periodically checking tarps and ties, and may require the driver to climb onto containers and/or reach overhead., • Perform pre- and post-route inspections of assigned truck and document any safety issues on standard reports., • Continuously monitor for safety and service-related issues, as well as containers of other equipment in need of repair, and report any issues to the Route Supervisor or Dispatch., • All IWS employees are expected to be responsible and accountable for the safety for themselves, their colleagues, the trucks, and other equipment and property. Drivers must immediately notify Route Supervisor or Dispatch of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage., • Communicate professionally with customers and Dispatchers at all times. This includes receiving complaints about schedules and quality of service. Our Drivers must make note of and report on any such complaints and respond in a courteous and respectful manner., • Attend all required training, operational meetings, and mandatory monthly Safety Meetings, • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards, • Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements and Qualifications::, • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States., • All Drivers must have a valid Class A or B CDL and a clean driving record., • At least 1 year of experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL A or B, within the last 7 years. Experience as a Driver or Helper for a refuse company is highly preferred., • Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA and applicable traffic regulations., • Must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic and signals, respond to official questions, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records., • Must be able to read and understand a map, • Must be able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position., • The Driver position may be required to lift up to 50 pounds, as well as mount and dismount the truck multiple times every route., • Must be able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather. The Lead Dispatcher is a self-directed role and will be responsible for establishing and documenting procedures for live dispatching as well as assisting with onboarding of new dispatch team members. Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.: • Coordinate and oversee dispatch activities for a large group of routes spanning multiple sites, ensuring timely and accurate route execution., • Serve as the primary point of contact for all Drivers as well as other colleagues as our depots and transfer stations., • Analyze route data to identify opportunities for optimization, cost reduction, and service improvement., • Collaborate with Operation Site Managers and customer service to resolve service disruptions and ensure alignment on priorities., • Ensure Drivers and trucks are being utilized to their full potential., • Manage daily truck activity to ensure driver productivity is commensurate with hours worked., • Set up crew sheets and notify all employees of their schedules., • Continuously monitor hours worked and ensure DOT compliance for Drivers., • Continuously monitor Driver performance and provide coaching as well as discipline as necessary., • Ensure compliance with safety policies and protocols as well as federal, state and local regulations., • Perform routine inspections on the trucks and equipment to ensure proper care and routine maintenance., • Review Driver requests for container switches or repairs and enter service tickets into the company database., • Ensure all accidents and injuries are thoroughly documented and distribute reports to the Safety and Risk teams for follow up., • Prepare and Deliver Regular Reports to Senior Management., • Field calls from customer service and handle appropriately., • If call is related to service not performed on a specific site address by speaking with the driver., • Monitor dispatch mailbox and handle requests appropriately., • Monitor system for missed pick ups and disposition them within 60 minutes., • Monitor system for driver progress, comments, skips, extras., • Conduct employee check-in procedure: inspect DVIR for completion, inspect route coversheet for completion of all necessary fields, inspect dump tickets being received, check route has been appropriately closed in the system., • Reschedule any customers that were blocked., • Tag any extra pick-ups in the system, follow-up with exceptions, stop services, missed stops, on call work orders and review pictures., • Close out outstanding tickets in the system, • Act on loaded truck list from end of day., • Monitor the call out line and adjust route and scheduling as necessary., • Coordinate with other sites for equipment when necessary., • Monitor and manage idle time., • Ensure accurate geocoding of stops., • Manage tablet inventory and ensure tablet use consistently across all routes, • Timely and accurate service alert notifications to customers., • Optimize driver assignments to maximize efficiency and minimize overtime., • Respond appropriately to vehicle breakdowns, accidents, or other field emergencies. Requirements and Qualifications::, • 3-8 years of Dispatching experience., • Completion of relevant undergraduate degree or certificate program., • Excellent written and verbal communication skills., • Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure., • Demonstrated ability to work independently., • Strong organization and time management skills., • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety., • Knowledge of applicable traffic, transportation, and other laws and regulations., • Intermediate to excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel., • Defensive Driving (Knowledge of Smith System)., • Basic understanding of vehicle operations and limitations., • May require occasional field visits to understand route challenges., • May require early morning, evening, or weekend hours based on operational needs., • Fluency in Spanish preferred not required., • Experience from the waste management, transportation, or related industry.
