Job Description POSITION SUMMARY: The Construction Inspector plays a critical role in ensuring that construction projects meet all contract document (plans and specifications), regulatory and safety standards. This position involves closely monitoring construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable codes. The ideal candidate for this position will have at least 5 years of construction inspection and oversight experience. They will provide construction observation primarily for municipal infrastructure projects; however, their work may involve some county, state, and federal funded projects as well as utility authority work, all of which may include roadway resurfacing and/or construction, water supply and distribution systems, sanitary sewer collection and treatment systems, storm sewer systems, park and recreation facilities, private land development. PRIMARY DUTIES: • Act in the capacity of construction observer / inspector to provide extensive observation of construction project work being performed by contractor and serve as Engineer’s liaison with Contractor., • Attend and/or lead pre-construction & weekly job progress meetings., • Conduct on-site observations of the work in progress to assist Engineer in determining if the work is proceeding in accordance with the Contract Documents, both alone and/or as part of a team., • Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and engineers to resolve any discrepancies or concerns identified during inspections., • Provide and maintain all records related to the project in question including daily quantities of work completed., • Keep a diary or logbook of all observations and daily activities for ongoing work and provide Engineer with daily reports to include all labor trades and equipment supplied by the contractor., • Review applications for payment with Contractor and confer with supervisor and Engineer of Record on recommendations for progress payments., • Prepare a final punch list at substantial completion and perform final project review for project closeout. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: • Applicants must have demonstrated experience in roadway construction and/or pavement restoration, drainage/storm sewer and/or water/wastewater, public sidewalk including ADA accessible curb ramps inspections. Contract administration experience a plus., • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work with others and the public, • Ability to read and understand construction plans and shop drawings, • Self-motivated, organized, focused, with strong attention to detail, • Possess good conflict resolution skills, • Basic computer skills and be able to prepare daily reports using a tablet EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: • High School diploma or equivalent, • Two-year technical or associate’s degree in construction technology or management are a plus. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES REQUIRED • Valid Driver’s License, • NICET Certification or other related site civil construction and inspection certifications are a plus The employee may also be required to accrue and/ or renew the following certifications at the discretion of the Regional Manager after the date of hire • OSHA Certification 10/30, • NICET Certification I, II, III, • ACI - Field Technician Certification, • New Jersey Society of Asphalt Technicians - Field Testing, • NJDOT - Traffic Control Coordinator, • Work Zone Safety, • Confined Space Training The annual base salary range for this full-time position in the United States is $55,000 - $82,500. This range represents a good faith estimate and is based on factors such as the role, level, and geographic location. The range shown reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for this position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors including skills, experience, education, and training.
