Job Description Clinical / Patient Care Responsibilities: • Greet and room patients; record relevant medical history, • Take and document vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, weight), • Review and reconcile current medications, allergies, and medical history, • Prepare patients for examinations and GI procedures (e.g. endoscopy, colonoscopy), • Assist the physician during GI procedures (e.g. passing instruments, suction, patient positioning), • Collect, label, and prepare laboratory specimens (e.g. stool tests, breath tests, biopsies), • Monitor patients post‐procedure; record and report any adverse reactions or changes in condition, • Maintain infection control and sterilization of equipment and procedure rooms Administrative / Office Duties: • Verify patient insurance, eligibility, and referrals prior to appointments or procedures, • Register and check in/out patients; collect co-pays or payments, • Schedule and confirm patient appointments, including GI procedures, • Prepare charts for provider review (chart prep) — ensure labs, imaging, prior records are available, • Enter orders, referrals, and follow-up instructions into the electronic health record (EHR) / practice management system, • Document all patient interactions, provider instructions, and clinical findings in patient charts, • Handle phone triage: answer calls, respond to patient inquiries, relay messages to providers, • Coordinate with external labs, imaging centers, and other referring physicians, • Process incoming results, pathology reports, and diagnostic studies; forward to providers and ensure follow-up, • Maintain inventory of clinical supplies, order new stock as needed, • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of exam and procedure rooms, • Participate in quality improvement initiatives; adhere to clinic policies and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, etc.), • Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations Administrative / Office Duties • Verify patient insurance, eligibility, and referrals prior to appointments or procedures, • Register and check in/out patients; collect co-pays or payments, • Schedule and confirm patient appointments, including GI procedures, • Prepare charts for provider review (chart prep) — ensure labs, imaging, prior records are available, • Enter orders, referrals, and follow-up instructions into the electronic health record (EHR) / practice management system, • Document all patient interactions, provider instructions, and clinical findings in patient charts, • Handle phone triage: answer calls, respond to patient inquiries, relay messages to providers, • Coordinate with external labs, imaging centers, and other referring physicians, • Process incoming results, pathology reports, and diagnostic studies; forward to providers and ensure follow-up, • Maintain inventory of clinical supplies, order new stock as needed, • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of exam and procedure rooms, • Participate in quality improvement initiatives; adhere to clinic policies and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, etc.), • Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations Qualifications & Requirements: Education & Certification • High school diploma or equivalent (GED), • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program OR Certification as a Medical Assistant from a Nationally Recognized accredited institution, • At least 1–2 years of experience as a medical assistant, preferably in a specialty or procedure-based setting, • Strong clinical skills: phlebotomy, EKG, specimen handling, vital signs, injections, • Knowledge of GI-specific tests and procedures (e.g. colonoscopy prep, breath tests, manometry) is advantageous, • Proficiency using electronic health record (EHR) / practice management software, • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills, • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment, • Ability to follow protocols, understand regulatory requirements (HIPAA, OSHA, etc.), • Physical stamina: ability to stand, walk, lift up to ~35 lbs, maneuver equipment, assist patients, • Team-oriented attitude and willingness to assist others
