The State of New York Mortgage Agency (SONYMA) is one of several HCR agencies. SONYMA’s programs provide mortgage financing to assist low- to moderate-income, first-time homebuyers in the purchase of a one-to-four unit residences that are required to meet eligibility criteria established by the Agency and by applicable Federal law. This position will report to the Single-Family Programs unit of SONYMA. The Single-Family unit reports to HCR’s Homeownership and Community Development. Position Summary: Support AVP Post Closing & Administration in oversight of day-to-day operations of Administration and Post-Closing units. Essential Duties / Responsibilities: • Maintain Lender, Pool Insurer and other partner profiles within system of record, Emphasys/LOTUS., • Produce and review all preliminary purchase reports in tandem with other Purchase Specialists. Reconcile any discrepancies between the lender, pool insurer and SONYMA. Verify loan data such as interest rate, insurance codes, property address, etc. prior to the purchase of the loan. Ensure data accuracy of loan purchase records and assessed lender penalties within agency systems., • Design and generate lender reporting, including document management and delivery, loan quality control, compensation, and other related data., • Process and reconcile payment of pool insurance premiums with Agency pool insurers; includes reconciliation of all policy cancellations and loan payoffs and/or pool certificate numbers., • Maintain Agency Bond Series numbers and Flip Code assignments., • Reconcile and verify income and purchase price limits within Agency systems., • Provide periodic updates regarding remaining policy balances., • Analyze and evaluate (on a quantitative or qualitative basis) the effectiveness of program operations in meeting established goals and objectives, • Generate and maintain routine reports and dashboards to communicate findings to stakeholders, including lenders, non-profit partners, government agencies, and others., • Provide analysis of Single-Family mortgage programs, policies and loan portfolio and make recommendations based on findings., • Perform verification of annual calculated purchase price and income limits for Single-Family programs., • Maintain census tract database on New York State Target Areas for economic development., • Produce reports on Single-Family program activity, and pipeline to auditors, lenders and servicers, etc., • Collaborate with team members to develop data-driven strategies and recommendations for program improvement. Recommend various ways that current technology can be used to enhance the efficiency of the department. Support implementation of improved process flows, as needed., • Support in conducting exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in lender performance based upon quality control findings., • Generate routine reports and dashboards to communicate findings to stakeholders., • Collect, clean and organize data from various sources to ensure accuracy and reliability. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position: • Bachelor’s Degree - Data Science, Computer Science, Math, Finance, Statistics, and Economics with a quantitative focus major are preferred. Financial industry experience preferred but not required., • Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments., • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills., • Ability to communicate complex data insights in a clear and concise manner., • Detail-oriented with a commitment to data integrity and accuracy., • Demonstrated research and numerical problem-solving skills., • Complete and thorough knowledge of mortgage documents, procedures, Agency’s policies, programs and guidelines., • Accounting background a plus., • Fluency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLookups and advanced formulas., • Knowledge of other data analysis and visualization tools, such as Power BI, SQL or Tableau, data modeling and report publishing, a plus., • Good oral and written communication skills.
